Best program for Russian far East travel
Does any frequent flyer program still view all of Russia as Europe or allows transfers outside the region on awards (Like through Korea or Japan). If I wanted to go from Moscow to VVO or KHV one way surprisingly there is no cheap way of doing so. Done some of research and here is what I have so far:
1. AA is 10K miles for intra-europe doesn't allow travel to far east on S7 as part of regular award. S7 to KHV or VVO is allowed as part of distance based awards but because of how big Russia is, doesn't really make sense.
2. Delta only allows rounds trips and charges big taxes on flights originating outside Russia.
3, Flying blue doesn't even recognize those as valid airports on their site but allows one ways.
4. For Korean Air you have to transfer through ICN (not allowed by most programs without charging a lot more).
5. US Air's agents who don't know geography could potentially allow a connecition on Sta Alliance through ICN but require roundtrips.
6. BA Avios seems to be a better option on S7. They allow one ways and taxes are low but because of the distance based program, it becomes almost 50K roundtrip in economy. Kind of high for a within-country award.
Any suggestions?
