Yet another potential OW applicant?

Short quotes from the article SriLankan Airlines expansion plans

[quote]
SriLankan Airlines is looking to add six widebodies as part of a plan to double its fleet during the next five years, and is considering the Airbus A330-300 and the Boeing 777.
...
The airline is also keen to join an alliance "as soon as practicable", said Chandrasena.

"Oneworld and Star are preferred, if the opportunity exists, but we need to know more about SkyTeam to see if that could be a strategic fit," he added.
[endquote]

I'd rather stop there (than India or Middle East) between Europe and SEAsia/Australia.
But I wander in strange places.

It seems to me they would be a good addition to OW's South Asia coverage, but I wonder if IT would have any objections to UL? From their route maps, there is virtually no overlap except on the CMB-MAA route.

In regards to tourism, Sri Lanka has some visually attractive places I wouldn't mind visiting.

I love the UL livery. ^

Its fleet renewal will be partly funded by a $500 million equity infusion from the Sri Lankan government, which owns the airline.

Maybe the govt should put some of that into improvements at CMB, and other areas to ready the country for an increase in intl tourism.

Had you visited CMB in 2005 before the new terminal was open you might comment on the tremendous improvements. Which is not to say that more of the same are unnecessary. But then I experienced middle eastern airports in the 1970s.

Happy wandering

Interesting, a good little airline (flew it in 2006 in Y) to position for an ex-CMB DONE4.
The new extension to the airport is quite nice and from memory the associated CX lounge quite nice as well.

Bit of an average history with foreign partners however (EK used to own 49% till a spat with the Govt).

Appears to have a secondary hub in BKK for North Asia flights which may suggest a better fit with *A

Is BKK an actual hub or is UL tagging HKG and PEK onto the end of two separate CMB-BKK flights?

It doesn't look as though there is any cooperation with TG, so I don't see why UL should join *A over OW.
