Don't forget that arriving from and then immediately departing to the same destination is not TWOV. The cities must be different for a transit.

Would it work to go, say, AMM-KRT-AMM-LHR? True, the outbound is to the same country as the inbound was from, but only as a connection. (I've no experience at TWOV.)

For example, read about tauphi's TWOV from another country to another country: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/17446023-post91.html And this: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/16582185-post31.html And this: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/16577242-post28.html And further discussion. |
Finally doing this
After a few failed attempts coordinating a visa, I hope to finally begin an AONE4 starting in KRT next week. I'll be staying in Khartoum for a few days beforehand and I *think* I've found a reliable contact who has arranged the visa process in a surprisingly efficient manner.
If anyone still needs help, let me know. I can also share the contact details for the agency that has been working on my entry permit, but let's first make sure all goes well next week. Assuming it does, I'll be flying KRT-AMM-DXB-LHR and onward. I'll get to KRT from DXB on a cheap FlyDubai ticket. |

BA to fly from Khartoum
As a result of IAG buying of BD, BA announced codesharing on BD flight to many BD destinations including ADD.
As a result, I strongly believe that later on BA will also add Khartoum to the list of flights code shared with BD enabling us to issue tickets RTW AONE4 ex-Khartoum with BA flight number using BA booking engine ^^ |

Update: made it safe and sound with no problems at all.
The trick is to arrange an "airport entry permit" -- in advance -- instead of a visa. This then allows you to get a visa on arrival, regardless of nationality, and with only a short wait when you get there. I had applied for the visa several times with no success, waiting weeks without word, but the airport entry permit took just 3 business days. I worked with the guy from this agency --> http://www.lenditravel.com And I stayed at the German Guesthouse, a nice place that I would also recommend --> http://www.germanguesthouse.com/vn/hotelbooking.aspx (I have no relationship with either of these groups, aside from being a paying customer. As always, YMMV.) Khartoum itself was fun. I did a city tour, went to the national museum and a couple of mosques, visited the markets, etc. I actually wished I was there a day or two extra, which is unusual for me. I came in on FlyDubai (easy and cheap) and left two days later to begin the AONE4 on the only RJ flight of the day. I was connecting back to DXB and had a long (6 hr+ layover) in AMM. If you ask for it, J class pax get a free voucher for a day room and meal at the Golden Tulip -- but it seems you have to know to ask, because this information wasn't volunteered. Anyway, it took a while to make it happen, but I'm glad it worked out. If anyone has any questions, I'm happy to help if I can. |

deepbluesky,
congratulations. KRT is still on my list - and looks like I will try later this year. How did you buy the ticket? Did you take stacks of cash to KRT or did you dinf a better way? Also how did you get around the rule of the RTW with the number of entries to Europe? I believe KRT is Africa and AMM in Erupe (not really, but for this ticket. You would need to enter Europe twice - and Sudan is not on the list of exceptions. |
I can answer part of my own question. Sudan is actually in Europe according to the oneworld website.

From the rules: The fare to be charged is determined by the number of geographic continents in the itinerary including the continent of origin. Continents are defined as: *Europe-Middle East (Including Algeria, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Libya, Morocco Russia both east and west of the Urals, Sudan, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan ) |
