How was your layover CRAIGSNYC?

I am scheduled for the same flights on my award trip upcoming in Nov (booked 1 week prior to UA points escalation). How did you end up spending the time - any of the suggestions above valuable?

I may be making an assumption based on timing, but did you arrive on TG and depart on NZ? How did your baggage fare with the long layover?

Oops - should have read the intervening pages - you flew on QF. But question still stands. Since your luggage was checked through and out of sight for >12 hrs, did you encounter any issues upon arriving in AKL?

9+ hours in SYD (x2)

Hi all, sorry if there already is a thread on this, found only car rentals etc.

Bought this insane IB ticket PAR-MAD r/t, with innovative routing enabled, up next is both ways via SYD .

So to be able to say to immigration guys I flew down for more than just lunch, I need some suggestions on activities between arrival 05.05 and departure 15.30 on both occasions.

Did see some people elswere sugggesting the Fish Market (never saw in SYD before). Is there a Fish restaurant in, or close to the Market? Weather permitting, a bus ride to Bondi Beach would be nice. Not to miss: QF F Lounge before returning.

Do you have any suggestions to fit a cramped diary like mine?
Thanks in advance !

Buy a daily train/bus/ferry ticket. Train from the airport to Circular Quay then a ferry ride (past the Opera House) to Manly beach for late breakfast / lunch. Then back to the airport on the same ticket.

Thank you for all the links. Did see the day trip thread before posting, but thought time was to short for the excursion suggestions there.

The time outside the airport nis estimated at 9.5 hours - arrive 05.05 - immigration - 9½ h - Immigration, security - 1 h QF F lounge -depart 15.30

The 11.5 hours link is interesting, som details are propably useful for me. And the bus link ^.

Will take time with the other links later.
Thanks for your effort

You have enough time for a morning trip to Manly for breakfast by train/ferry. Leave the airport as soon as you can. Will be peak morning commuter time, but you will be OK, especially if you can get a train by 06:30

9 hour layover in SYD: Possible to go into city? Suggestions?

In a couple weeks' time I'm connecting from the morning LAN flight from AKL to SYD (in business) onward to the evening Qantas departure to LHR by way of DXB (in first). The time on the ground in SYD is schedule at 9 hours 10 minutes. Both my partner and I have valid Australian ETAs and we are considering leaving the airport for some of the time. Does anyone have any suggestions on things to do which are quintessentially Sydney but which aren't overrun with tourists and can be done in a couple of hours? I was thinking perhaps just grabbing a meal with a view, I don't need to be go-go-go. I'd love to hear suggestions.

Along similar lines, does anyone have experience with such a long transfer in Sydney? Will there be any problem with our bags being checked through to London from Auckland? Whether or not we leave the airport we really don't want to have to collect and re-check our bags. Ideally we would head out of the airport upon arrival in the morning not having collected our bags, spend a couple of hours in Sydney, pick up a pre-scheduled Chauffeur Drive ride back to SYD 5 hours before our onward flight, have a couple of hours in the lounge and head off to our flight. If this is just too much to do, or if it would create operational complexities to leave the airport while our bags have been through-checked, we'd really be 100% fine with crashing the First lounge for that time. Thanks for the advice!

Walk around the Botanical Gardens/Opera House then lunch at Cafe Sydney. It may not be the most original idea but it does work!

You certainly have plenty of time to leave the airport, returning 5 hours before seems kind of early to me.

I agree with the Botanical Gardens/Opera House, maybe a beer or glass of wine at the opera bar overlooking the bridge and city. You could do a great Thai meal at Chat Thai or Home Thai (both were excellent and reasonably priced).

If your feeling more adventurous, you could take the bus line from the airport out to Bondi Beach. Spend a couple of hours walking around the beach, having a small meal or drinks overlooking the ocean.

If on a Sat or Sunday, could do the Rocks Street Mkt. Maybe do the Sydney Harbor Bridge, walk one way & tube back.

Have you been to Sydney before?
Best is take the train to Circular Quay, then ferry to Manly. Walk 5 minutes to the other side (ocean), have a meal and then return. You see the harbour, opera house & harbour. You could have the car pick you up in Manly

Absolutely this. You have ample time to complete this journey and will see much of what Sydney has to offer.

Six hour layover in SYD

My wife and I are flying from HKG to CHC via SYD and have a 6 hour layover in SYD. The flight from HKG to SYD is on Cathay in J and the flight from SYD to CHC is on Qantas also in J so I assume I can use the Qantas international business lounge in SYD but 6 hours is a long time. Does anyone have any suggestions on what else to do with the time in SYD?
