The DING is pretty bad on DL's 764 IIRC. Any aircraft that has seats with the remotes installed in the side of the seat will always have a chorus of dings throughout the flight as people rub up against the remote.
I've never noticed the DING too loud on the A333. Bose QC2 headphones might help the problem.

Next would be the CRJ, however, all the other bad things of the CRJ make the ding pretty insignificant.

I totally agree! Before takeoff it seems like there's dinging every five seconds and I'm not even exaggerating! Add that to the already annoying boarding music and tacky safety video and I'm ready to jump out of the aircraft!!! The window shade issue also drives me crazy. There was this kid behind me who kept opening his shade every five minutes to look outside when everyone else's was closed and it was like someone was shining a spot light. He was a young kid and I understand that he was excited to go to Hawaii but once you've seen one section of the open Pacific Ocean, you've seen it all. My philosophy is if somebody wants to sleep on a day flight bring eyeshades and let the rest of us keep the blinds open. On night flights its obviously not much of an issue.

Thanks to all for replies, I will try the bose headphones..
Can't get out of Bangkok now anyway, those silly anti war protesters have taken over the intl airport, all flights cancelled UFN.
Might as well go out and have a beer.
correction : anti-governemnt protesters.

I think the QC2's only reduce the ambient noise to make the ding more noticeable. One time on the A330, the ding didn't stop for like 5 minutes. I think a rather large pax fell asleep against the button and it drove me mad. Since I was sitting row 10 I think the speaker was right above me. Argh...

Didn't complain, though...never do. I understand that there are some people out there that just can't sleep without the lights on.

Yeah, yeah...I know...we all have our rights. Courtesy is another thing though. On the last flight, the guy with the open window was sleeping...I got his blinding sunlight in the dimmed cabin. He wasn't even awake to enjoy it. No big deal for the times I was sleeping...sleeping's not a problem. The awake times with the fully-open blinding light were the challenge.
