NW Standby question
Currently booked (by frugal employer) on 09/06/08:
NW #1276 MSP - JFK @ 1:11 PM
Want to standby for:
NW #1542 MSP - LGA @ 1:05 PM
LGA much closer to home, seats avail but 42 days to go.
Not familiar with NW standby policies and both flights leave same time. With no checked bags is it possible or even worth it to attempt this?
Or should I just bite the bullet, pay the extra $25 cab fare & sit in traffic?
Thanks!

AFAIK stand by is only allowed for the SAME route. Change the airport and you change the fare, therefore not allowed.
I would let the "frugal employer" pay the extra $25 cab fare.

>>>>>>Right, not same route...
Back when I was a travel agent, JFK and LGA for ticketing purposes WERE indeed the same (they were "common rated"), and were interchangeable without reissue of a ticket (as are several other cities with multiple airports).
So you might be able to stand by - - but I wouldn't do it unless the plane was half empty.

Actually you can standby for $25.00 and fly to LGA at the kiosk. EWR-JFK-LGA are all considered the same destination for day of departure standby. It should be no problem. When you checkin on the kiosk select change flight in the lower left hand corner. It should bring of a list of alternate flights and LGA should be included. Good Luck!!

Free for Elite?
So, Jake, are you saying that if the OP is elite, he can standby to the new NYC airport for free?

Yeah didn't realize he was elite. Then yes he could standby for no fee.

I can confirm...I have done this stand-by switch (from EWR to LGA). Also works for LAX/SNA....those are the only two pairs I can confirm....
As for luggage it depends on the situation. If there are plenty of seats when you check in you should be able to confirm the stand-by then and have no problem checking bags through. If you end up having to stand-by at the gate I wouldn't do it with anything but a carry-on. It can be done but they don't guarantee your luggage goes with you.

I think the term is that JFK / LGA / EWR are "co-terminals" and treated as one on day of travel.
Good luck

If they allow a change to another co-terminal on day of flight, with no additional fare, then that is good. However, since MSP-JFK fares have been considerably less than MSP-LGA fares (due to Sun Country competition to/from JFK) I don't think you could ever change it any earlier. Even though they are listed as co-terminals, when there are "airport specific" fares the change would not be allowed prior to the day of flight.

Are the fares actually different (e.g., for H, Q, T, B buckets) or is it that they simply release zero space in the cheapest fare buckets for LGA?
