Want to standby for:

NW #1542 MSP - LGA @ 1:05 PM

LGA much closer to home, seats avail but 42 days to go.

Not familiar with NW standby policies and both flights leave same time. With no checked bags is it possible or even worth it to attempt this?

Or should I just bite the bullet, pay the extra $25 cab fare & sit in traffic?
