SE mileage upgrade problem
Hi all,
Please forgive me if this is a dumb question. I'd like to get a mileage upgrade to FC on a redeye for which there are P class seats available. The NWA SE customer service line told me that I can't get such an upgrade unless there are U class seats available, and apparently there aren't any available. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I had the impression that mileage upgrades to FC were easy to do once you had Elite status. The irony is that this is my GE qualifying flight, too!

Mileage upgrades do not come from the F or P class buckets but only from the same ones that provide EUA's. So if the the upgrade bucket is not available you can not use miles to UG. Elite status should not factor into this either, so long as you have some level.

I have been in this situation...
You have a couple of alternatives, none of them pretty. You can keep trying and see if R (upgradable) fares become available. If the flight were 3 months out this might work, but I'll bet it's next week.
You can hang in and hope for the Silver UG. I am doing a transcon MR this weekend to make Gold and thought about using miles for the sure thing. But then decided to risk it. More exciting that way.
Or you can *shudder* pay for F. You can run it on nwa.com and see how much this will cost you - probably a lot.

Cool -- thanks for the advice. This is LAX to DTW a few days after Christmas, so I'm not optimistic about an SE upgrade. But I will keep trying to see if upgradable fares free up. (I guess I should be sure to look 5 days out, too, before they go start giving them to GE.) Thanks again!
