Need comp advice

Couldn't find this situation in the search...
I recently moved to DTW, and due to my job change, my UA Premier status expired last week.
My current job looks like it'll require me to do some major NW travel, especially over the next couple months.
Now, most people would probably say "just fly and earn the status like everyone else..." (which I could certainly understand).
From Flyertalk, I do know that NW comps (seems like it happens very quickly too).
So, which route makes the most sense:
1. Fax NW a letter, with my UA 2002 premier card, and explain that I just moved, and will be traveling, and although my UA Premier expired last week, I'd request a comp?
2. Same scenario, but mention that I have 250K Delta miles, and I'm debating between DL and NW, although I'd prefer NW because of the non-stops?
3. Just fax an old statement to them which shows Premier, and hope for the best?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Well, if I read your note right - 1 or 3 because 2 is, shall we say, being economical with the truth... (unless you really do have Delta 250K, or do have the freedom to choose between DL and NW, even though your note says you don't)

Actually, both are true. I do have 250K DL miles (and banking them for a big trip), and would have the freedom to fly DL if I chose. However, to fly N/S from DTW-Cali, I'd need to fly NW.

I would choose option #1 and also indicate the amount of mileage you expect to fly with them. Honesty is the best policy. I would further go on to tell them of the mileage level you have with Delta and that you would prefer to travel with Northwest but that you would appreciate having status with Northwest. <IMG SRC="http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thumbsup.gif">

I would start all of this effort with a phone call to an elite customer service agent rather than a fax. Someone here at flyertalk should be able to supply you with the appropriate phone number.

I wrote to NW requesting them to comp me status from my Delta Silver Medallion. I only had to fax them a copy of my last three months statements and I was comped about 4-6 weeks later. I told them I fly to Europe about 5-6 times a year and was looking for a new airline.
I noticed the upgrade on the NW website first, then recieved credentials a few weeks later.
