Question Should I do it?

I just finished my first MR this past weekend (BOS-CVG-SLC-ANC-SLC-BOS), and it was fun but exhausting. The FAs thought I was doing a drug run, because aircraft from SLC-ANC was same from ANC-SLC 52 minutes later. Nonetheless, I will be flying on CO metal in about two weeks from MHT to MIA. After that one-way trip down to MIA, I will be exactly 1 mile over the 50K threshold for GE--yay! At this point, however, I'm still 795 miles short of GE. I'm wondering whether I should even bother doing one more MR to gain GE before flying down to MIA. I'm not sure whether it's even worth the $136.00 to fly an additional 2200 miles. Thoughts?

PS: I'm thinking that MR are addictive. I'm beginning to suspect that it's probably something *not* good (LOL jk) .

I'd say don't do it... save the $$$ for a MR after the new year when you will be working on your 2008 status

You were on a drug run - It's just that status is your drug.

GE is nice, but soon you'll be thinking of Plat...next year you might be only 10k short, and an MR will push you over the edge...once you're Plat you won't want to go back to GE...the cycle of addiction will continue...

Hello, my name is UVAHoo, and I have a problem. I'm addicted to FT and status. Help me. Please .

Oh FT, what would I do without you?

With all due respect, Flyertalk is not AA for status addicts but conversely it seems to me to be more an open bar for the mileage thirsty to which I say proudly, "Step up and make mine a double!!"

Ahh, Grasshopper, one must remember that your goal was Gold and you have attained that level of consciousness. I would say that it does not get any better than 1 mile over Gold for this status year if Plat is unattainable. A MR this year would be just for the miles, a MR next year would = EQM's. You have played this perfectly. Remember, the goal is not to do mileage runs, the goal is STATUS. Next year, look at MR's as mini vacations. Instead of the 2500 mile turn around stop for a day or two and enjoy whatever city you are in even if for a day or two. A weekend in AMS or HKG (my personal favorite) is a great thing and a lot of EQM's.

I often think about what I will do when my crazy travel schedule ends (someday). What is addicting, in my opinion, is having the world literally at your fingertips. So many people spend their life in a 100 mile radius. People like us need to call many, many cites and places home. It's not just getting there, though that is also fun, its enjoying the places you go. I am writing this from my "other home" at the ES Burligame at SFO. I feel as at home here as I do in NH.

Great job on getting Gold and with a little planning to augment your work travel with personal travel, many new places to see and a few bucks (really not that much if you look at travel as a hobby...certainly cheaper than the Drugs you were running) you can easily get to Plat and make all of your travel that much more comfortable and rewarding.

Congrats!

Now, now, hang on a second. I think MKEbound might be on to something. Like AA, FT is indeed a support group for those of us who have trouble saying "no" to our addiction. We just measure that addiction in miles instead of months and days, our families and friends think we have a serious problem with wanting miles and status, and we each have many sponsors at FT to turn to when things get rough. The only real differences between FT and AA (other than the whole alcohol bit) are:

- while we admit we have a problem, we don't want to change
- we can convert our personal inventory into magazine subscriptions or charitible donations whenever we want
- we turn our airborne lives over to a higher power (dressed in TSA whites) whether we like it or not
- said higher power therefore tends to piss us off

But the premise is basically the same - we are among like-minded souls supporting one another to a common end: bending the system to our will.

*Note: no disrespect is intended towards AA or any of its members.

Just a reminder in case you are flying a NW coded, CO operated, flight MHT-MIA. You will recieve only 50% EQMs if you are flying with a B,V,L,T, or K class ticket.

Exclamation

Oh come on! Give me a LITTLE credit here, guys. I factored that in BEFORE I did my MR! If I earned 100% EQMs on the CO trip to MIA, I'd be racking up 2,084 RT. Since I have 49,205 EQMs right now--that is, 795 miles short of 50K--I will be ok, even with 50% EQMs. I can only hope that the trip down (796 EQMs, even with 50%) which will add 796 EQMs will help me secure an UG when I return 4 days later. In other words, hopefully the 796 mi will post before I get ready to return. Random question: anyone know the success rate of SE UG from MIA-EWR on a Friday evening (12/22)?

No award seats according to KVS...
Flights 44, 539, and 639 look pretty good tho for seats to be released.

If you're already silver, you'd get EUA'd 1 day out. As gold, it'd be 3 days out, but the miles have to post, then you have to wait a day and call the WP line to get the rest of your trip updated to show that you're now gold, so you're looking at having no more than 2 days left anyway.
