"S" code "Mileage too soon to post"

I flew some KL operated flights last week that will push me to GE. The first of four segments was NW-coded and posted almost immediately. After 8 days the second segment (KL-coded) hadn't posted, so I filled out the mileage request form. Today (10 days after flying that second segment and 6 days after the KL-coded return segments) the second segment finally posted with its miles, but the return segments show up without miles and with a code "S," explained as "mileage too soon to post."

Six days doesn't really seem "too soon" to me. Perhaps this is just another version of the "Q" code? There was nothing sketchy about my flights--no last minute changes or anything. My FT search attempts turned up no other record of this "S" code or "mileage too soon to post".*

Anybody ever seen the "S" code? I'm not really worried, since I figure the miles will show up in a day or two, but since I'm at 49,261 EQM right now, I want those last two segments in time for EUA for my next flights.

Impatient, I know.

*As a tangent, it would be great if searching for a phrase in quotation marks would return only threads containing the complete phrase instead of all threads that contain any of the words. Heck, even a boolean AND capability would be a huge help for searching. Having search be boolean OR only severely limits its utility.

Partner miles are often shipped over in batches. Just because some flights post in a few days, doesn't mean the next flights will. You just caught the batch before it was sent over, that's it.

8 days is hardly anything. NW posts to CO once weekly (Tuesdays) for flights taken the previous week. So, a Saturday flight will post Tuesday (in 3 days), and a Sunday flight will post the following Tuesday (in 9 days).

I'm not sure how frequent NW and KL batch, or what their lagtime is, but 8 days doesn't seem like much given how this stuff works.

You're completely right. But it seems like an eternity when it means moving up an elite tier and I'm therefore compulsively checking on its status every few hours. I really should get a life.

Thanks for the always-solid info.

NW partners (airlines, hotels, rental cars, telecomunications, etc) have 30 days

All NW partners have up to 30 days to post.

Usually Worldperk partners batch activity on a weekly basis, but some partners post monthly.

If it really bothers you, have you tried calling WP and asking for a status bump up under the circumstances?

I know some other airlines have been known to do this.

To soon to post, means that they have 10 days to post the flight, if it is not posted in 10 days from the actual flight THEN they will investigate it.

Although NW does move your status up within a day or so of the miles posting, the status earned this program year is actually earned and effective for the NEXT program year (3/1/05 through 2/28/06) so I do not think you will get anyone to bump you up until the miles are posted. It is a courtesy, so to speak, that NW moves you up in the current program year. They don't generally get involved with speeding up the process though.

Congratulations on making Gold!

I just checked and full credit is now there (less than 24 hours after the S codes appeared). Plus it already says I'm Gold Elite beginning Oct 13. Woo hoo! Guess I need to call tomorrow and make sure all my itins reflect the new status. And then I have to decide whether to push for plat...

I once had the "S" experience with flights on Delta Air Lines. I made a request for posting those DL flight miles and got the departure segments posted the next day. However, the return segments got "S" and it finally posted 7 days after the flights. Also I flew Alaska in August and miles were posted exactly 7 days after the flights. So to me, it looks like that 7 days is the time needed to post some partners' miles if they do not post immediately.

Congratulations to be Gold! You might not get the Gold and Platinum Elite Line number until you get the GE card.(I still have not got the GE card--it is almost a month since I hit Gold). In case you need the numbers, just let us know.

This sounds about right. My 9/30 NW-coded KL flight posted immediately, but the 10/1 KL-coded flight didn't (nor did the 10/5 return flights). I requested the 10/1 flight 8 days later via the website, and it posted yesterday (10/11) along with the return KL flights with the "S." And the "S" disappeared and the miles posted today (10/12), 7 days after the flights.

I think you figured it out!

And thanks for the Gold 800 number offer. If you wouldn't mind PMing it my way, I'd greatly appreciate it since I'll probably need it tomorrow and probably won't get my card for a month or so.

Had the same code for this flight along with a D code.
08OCT2004
NW 8499 KL 1823 Y/M AMS - TXL - D (Coupon refunded or exchanged.)
NW 8499 NW 8499 B/B AMS - TXL - S (Mileage too soon to post.)
Both are new for me. D code posted on the 10th, and the S code today. Figure it will take a few days to sort out and I'll get my miles then. Never fails.

BTW, do not forget to have a NW agent re-enter your WP# on your current reservations so your upgrades come 3 days before departure.

I'll be doing it tomorrow. UA vs NW already hooked me up with the GE phone number. Thanks!

Just updated my itins with my new status. ^

Now I understand why folks are reluctant to post the GE/PE phone numbers publicly. A real human actually answers the phone without me having to punch in my account number and pin! Wow!

Well, that's only if you call at night or they're having phone system issues. I think if you call after 9pm CDT (not sure of the exact time), you are sent to the reservations desk in Seattle, WA which does not ask you for your WP # or PIN. If you call between 6am-9pm CDT (again, not sure of the times), then you are sent to the IVR in Minneapolis or Detroit or somewhere else and that will ask you for your WP # and pin. Then when you get to the agent, you hear, "Thank you for calling Mr. RobOnLI. How can I help you today?"

gold phone

When I got gold, I E-mailed them a question, and asked for the number, and they E-mailed it back. It is really nice.

Having just had the same experience of waiting for a partner to post to get gold - I understand! Mine worked out too. I got my gold status before the next flight where I really wanted it. I think it may have made the difference between being upgraded ahead of time and having to wait at the gate. Or.. not getting an EUA. I really like upgrades - I will pay more on NW than the cheapest flight on another airline for the upgrade.
