Hey! It's not like I *just* picked Brooklyn!

But it's much easier to get killed there by the collapse of a pile of Vegan Teething Rings at Whole Foods than it is to get killed by that almost anywhere else in the country

Wouldn't pretty much ALL teething rings be vegan?

It is disappointing that the OP did not return to answer my question about which European terror attacks took place on airport monorails.

You should avoid:

Tall Buildings
Garages of Tall Buildings
Times Square
Triangle Shirtwaist Factory
Columbus Circle
People fleeing the police
The Police
Central Park
The Bronx
Brooklyn
Queens
Staten Island
Manhattan
Airplanes near flocks of birds
Any boat on the Hudson when there are birds near the airport

I'm sure there's more

You forgot the "General Slocum"!

I suggest keeping a low profile at all times, leaving those B&R and Tumi at home, switch to something like Samsonite or American Tourister, hide those blink* blink* gold iPhone 7S+ while riding and walking

Subway trains & LIRR are perfectly fine, just don't doze off for the short ride on the Airtrain. MTA buses, including those Q70-SBS (took a Q44-SBS recently at Jamaica) have live video camera feeds ... just don't jaywalk in front or around these buses when they do swing & do those wide turns due to the driver's blindspots, a few fatalities lately including one Citi-bike rider in midtown Manhattan commuting in his suit.

Both to & from midtown and downtown Manhattan last week in my big & heavy backpack, but saw no package inspection randomly conducted at station entrances - just assumed the heavily armed Hercules NYPD team are around and/or undercover patrolling ... like 98% of the typical NY'ers, it is business as usual, our security are that the trains & buses are running on schedule and on time.

Holy crap.
Maybe you should stay home, and disconnect your computer from the internet while you're at it. Have you not heard about the recent spree of computer hackings?

I knew this refrain sounded familiar. The OP posted this in another thread:

I have an almost 17hr EWR layover and would like to hop over to JFK at around 9 or 10ish AM to do some spotting. I would prefer an area that is:

1. Either on the airport (PRE security) or off airport but walking distance to a metro stop.
2. MOST IMPORTANT- A SAFE spot. I am NOT interested in getting mugged or shot.
3. A place that is commonly used by planespotters so that people don't look at me like I'm crazy AND so that police won't ask me to leave.

This advice was given by an American on the Europe Board about safety :

Avoid crowds and obvious tourist attractions and special events where possible.
So yeah just stay at home and hope you don't trip over an electrical cord and drag the applicance into a full bath with you!

Also, because the building is now part of NYU, so should be avoided merely on those grounds.

The OP must surround himself/herself with those who clearly embrace being the victims of a violent crime. Why else state the above?

If no one appreciated my conflusion of Times SQUARE, Columbus CIRCLE and TRIANGLE Shirtwaist Factory well then, I will consider that I am amongst folks who just don't appreciate creative constructions.

Every time I have been on the Airtrain there's always a private security guard, TSA Agent or a CBP officer riding it..

Yeah, that would be a chew toy, you're in the pet aisle. Baby stuff is in aisle three.
