One of my favorite restaurants in that area (and, for that matter, Boston in general) is Fire + Ice. You can grab lunch or dinner there and they have a unique way of preparing the food and you get a lot of food for your $.

I don’t mean to sound like a jerk, but I disagree with your entire post.

Back Bay is as much a wonderful residential neighborhood as it is a commercial district. DO NOT EAT ANY OF YOUR MEALS AT THE SHERATON! My favorite breakfast spot in the area, Trident Bookstore Café, is a very easy walk from the hotel. For a quick bite, Flour Bakery is directly across the street from the hotel. Their sticky buns are insanely good.

The area has a number of superb restaurants. Fire + Ice is not one of them.

If you are up early Flour opens at 6:30 during the week (8 on Sat and Sun).

Outch. Guess we're going to have to agree to disagree on that one.

I guess since I work in Boston I do consider Back Bay a largely business area, true that there are some residential areas, but the area around the Prudential Center (where the Sheraton is located) is definitely as commercial as it gets.

Think about the streets in the Back Bay:

Boylston St. is largely commercial.
Newbury St. is 50/50 commercial and residential.
Commonwealth Avenue is 100% residential.
Marlborough St. is 100% residential.
Beacon St. is 100% residential.
