Any decent eats in/around Providence?
Headed on a quick trip tomorrow with a buddy of mine to play golf with Brad Faxon...compliments of SPG Moments!^
We're flying into PVD (tip of the cap to dd992emo) and arrive around 4ish...was hoping someone could recommend a good local place...try to stay away from chains...like to try the local legends if there are any...thanks!

Walk or drive (slowly) along Atwells Avenue and try any Italian restaurant that looks good.
Also on Atwells Ave., if you're not in the mood for Italian, is Chef Ho's (Chinese, if it's not obvious from the name) at #243. Been there twice, the first with local friends who suggested it. Very good both times.
We also like Rue d'Espoir, a French bistro at 99 Hope Street. (Its name is the street name translated into French.)

Love it. My wife (then GF) took me there for my birthday a few years back, along with another couple who live in Providence. We don't go often because it's not cheap and they don't take reservations, but if the prices are OK with you and the wait isn't too long, it's hard to do better.

Never had a bad meal on Atwells. Anything from Civita Farnese, one
of the old-time cash-only places, to Euro Bistro should be fine. I have
even heard good things about the Mexican place down that end of
the street. A mediocre meal once at a middle-eastern restaurant there,
name forgotten, though.
New favorite, courtesy of TransWorld One - La Laiterie down on
Wayland Ave on the east side.

Love, love, love the grilled pizza at Bob & Timmy's, a very casual neighborhood Italian joint on Federal Hill.
