Lexpassenger: your failed attempt at comedy eludes me.... and I suspect that was your best "A" material. Sadly, I took a look at some of your other postings, and your previous comment was your most fascinating comment... but that's still not saying much, is it...

flyrights, given that you think BA is doing something illegal or whatever you call it, why fly BA? you could use your BA miles and fly another 1w airline or give it to some poor soul who actually appreciates BA or respects their decision to give higher fare passengers priority.

Because I admit I want to go on the Concorde... and that leaves BA... There are lots of better/cheaper ways to get to asia and/or Australia... Trust me, I'd much prefer that Singapore Airlines or Thai Airlines had the Concorde... once I've done that, I'm pretty much through with BA, (more for their lack of First class award seat availability, than for their undisclosed pecking order policy, which I believe all airlines share the same guilt).

I'm not an expert, but from LAX, wouldn't you fly over the Pacific to get to Asia or Australia? That seems way faster than going from LAX-JFK-LHR-Asia/Australia, even using the Concorde on the JFK-LHR portion, especially considering all of the connections you'd need to make.
Like I say, I'm not an expert. As for the government regulating everything about the airlines, didn't we see how poorly that worked? Since deregulation you aren't getting piano bars in the sky, but you can also fly from LAX-LHR for under $300 with a little planning, versus spending several times that when the government was in charge. Call me crazy (again), but capitalism has worked out pretty well for us for this long, certainly better than communism has worked anywhere else. Sure, there are some crooks being exposed these days, but I hardly think that's a reason to throw the baby out with the bath water. Furthermore, you've failed to prove that fare class and or elite status isn't an equitable system for determining pecking order. As I've said before in this thread - I'm certain that you treat your best friends better than random aquaintances or people you've never met before. Why should you expect businesses to do anything different? d |
After initially thinking this thread was a wind up, it's obviously not, and for that, I pity the poster!
From the BA website: "Earn enough Points to move into the Silver and Gold tiers, and you will also benefit from access to our worldwide network of over 230 Executive Club and oneworld™ alliance lounges. You can take advantage of many other valuable privileges, all designed to make your business travel easier." You can take it that this means you get priority (read, 'privileges') over other passengers. As far as I am aware, the 'pecking order' goes like this in BA (in Europe): Premier Card holders Gold Card holders Full Fare Club Europe Pax Silver Card Pax Discounted Club Europe Pax Full Fare Economy Pax Discounted Economy Pax Serving Staff Retired Staff (The latter two recieve no DBC). This applies to pretty much anything. Operational upgrades are different (staff have their own rules). Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. |

Bahrainlad, "privledges", does NOT eqaul priority... unless it is FULLY disclosed, in advance, to all buyers of tickets... Airlines can't make up rules as they go along to suit their alleged "best" customers. "Priviledges" are things like special/shorter check in line, access to the lounge, preboarding, etc. Having the right to step on people that you somehow think you're BETTER than, by basically throwing them off of airline flights they are also confirmed on, simply because your company paid more for your ticket than they paid for theirs out of their pocket, is NOT a privilege, and is not outlined in any contract of carriage.
Also, the previous poster didn't address where in the pecking order list any AWARD travelers are. For example, I may have a CONCORDE award on British Airways, but have NO elite status. Am I all of the sudden LESS or MORE important than a consolidator economy PAID ticket? How do I know? IT's not in the contract of carriage... so it's just a big mystery... Failure to disclose what one is selling is probably fraud. And to Doppy, I wanted to take the Concorde, and that left BA. Yes, I know Air France has concorde flights, but their awards are MUCh higher than British... however, that probably means one can have a realistic chance of actually claiming and REDEEMING an award on Air France... On BA, it's next to impossible on anything other than a straight roundtrip ticket. And it's nice to see that TransWorldOne is the great defender of Lexpassenger's comedic talents. Perhaps one of you could paste a sampling of some of his comedy, because I still haven't seen it... still waiting, Jim PS: I happen to live next door to a rather well known comedian... if you paste some of Lex's material, I'll run it by my neighbor, who admittedly is a better judge of comedy than me, and probably better than TransWorldOne too.. |
I'll immodestly suggest this one, flyrights.

Having the right to step on people... Yeah, yeah, save your breath. I areadly know about my "failed attempt at blah blah blah." No one cares. |
Well Ken cared enough to respond, didn't he! And if no one cared, why bother even mentioning that?
Oh well... I think some people care... over 100 replies tells me people probably do care, and at least some probably KNOW in their greedy little hearts, that I'm right, that airlines SHOULD disclose EXACTLY what rights people are buying, but lack the courage to publically admit it... It's a rather simple and straightforward concept. Disclosure. We've seen corporate America's problems with LACK of disclosure in the stock market this week, haven't we... Jim |
