Is US Matching AA Gold?

I've been a couple posts asking about US matching other status(es), but few definitive responses. What do they do do, and how is it requested?

Thanks.

I have a question on status match from NW (or fill your favorite or un-favorite FF here) to United. I have a good chance that I will reach gold status on NW. I want to status match to United. However, I'm already a Premier Elite on United MP. Will United status match my NW status to United MP Premium Exec. I have plans to go to Thailand late next year and have about 80k FF miles on United so getting my status bumped up on United for next year will be huge because going from *A silver to *A gold is huge. Based on my experience as a *A silver, they treat you almost exactly the same on international flights as a person with no status at all. Going to *A gold will give me access to the lounges as well as priority seating/boarding. I'm planning on using the miles to go to Thailand next year.

I called US and asked if they match AA Plat and got a no.:td:

Platinum Elite level is awesome!

I think a few detours and extra trips are necessary for my 75,000!

RE: NomadPerkins

Nomad,

I have in previous years enjoyed all 3 levels (Plat. down, until last year) w/NWA. It has been my experience (and you should call and verify) that you only go down 1 level. So even if you don't fly enough to qualify for ANY Elite level this year, next year you would be at the next level (Gold), etc. You should be able to "milk" the system for an additional 2 years w/out flying (per their terms) keeping some level of elite status. This may have changed? But as of year before last was the norm.

Boa Viagem!^

A different experience here. NW PE for at least nine years (mostly paid J fares) 1999-2007. Flew 27,000 miles in 2007 (mostly paid J) and dropped (like a rock) to SE. This year a total of 1,000 EQM and expect to drop (appropriately) to GM. This is not a complaint, just another observation.

Not really. I dropped from NW GE to nothing a few years ago.

Here what my friend got today from NWA:

1. Gold on BMI to Platinum on NWA:
"fter reviewing the
information provided to us on your Diamond Club account, your Northwest
WorldPerks account has been upgraded to Platinum Elite status. This
one-time complimentary membership upgrade will remain valid through
February 28, 2009."

2. Good through 2009:
"Due to the timing of your 2008 complimentary Platinum Elite upgrade,
please be advised that your Platinum Elite membership will be continued
through the 2008 program year - March 1, 2009 through February 28, 2010.
You may expect your credentials for this program to be delivered prior
to March 1, 2009 to the address on file."

I got the same response from NW today. They matched me through 2009 due to my CO and UA status. Now seems a very good time to match with the changes in SkyTeam and *A.

How much activity was on the BD account, for them to comp to NW PE??

skywalkerLAX Oct 5, 2008 3:35 pm

A collague of mine wants to switch from AA to SkyTeam, now I did switch to CO a while ago but dont know if it might be better to advise him towards DL or NW !?

Is there any downside with either one of these programms ?

I only flew on CO as long as I have my status but in general, how do the Alliance Partner treat you in terms of upgrades etc ?

Would it make sense for him to match to DL (flying LAX-JFK) when he is looking for preferential treatment on some NW overseas trips

Cheers,

Hmmm, based on (1) it seems like they only match through Feb. of 2009, but based on the bolded part above it seems like it's really through 2010, right? Can anyone say for sure? I'm considering a match before the program disappears, but only if it's good through early 2010.

Any thoughts?

Yeah I think that they extend it until 02/10 now considering that there are only 2 full months left this Q-year.

Also I just realized that CO dumped its Bonus from 125% to 100% so NW would be still ahead of this !

lucky9876coins Oct 6, 2008 11:50 am

Anyone know if there's any way to email a NW status match request, or whether it has to be mailed/faxed?

Thanks!

I sent one yesterday to the NW contact info mentioned on the front page.

I did one for myself as well... considering how many SkyTeam deals there were this year and how cheap their prices to Europe / Germany are I can justify another elite membership ;)

NW? lucky, what are you thinking? Just kidding!

I have been thinking about requesting a match with DL, because they have so many flights from TPA. I think they would be a better secondary airline than UA. However, considering that NW/DL will be the same airline anyway, it wouldn't matter which one gave the match, I guess. I would use my AA EXP. Does anyone have any thoughts as to whether it would be better to request the match from NW or DL?

Looks like NW matches you up to Platinum while DL bumps you only to Gold.

I would go with NW in your case. I faxed my EXP infos to them yesterday !

My reasons: the cheap fares to europe plus the 125% bonus and the opportunity to fly F to LAS since AA has only 1 mainline flight per day

Well, as a fellow TPA-er, here's why I did NW.

YES !

Just got my email :

Dear Mr skywalkerLAX,

Thank you for contacting Northwest Airlines in regard to upgrading your
WorldPerks account.

A variety of criteria, including information from your American Airlines
mileage summary, is considered when evaluating requests from members to
match elite status from another airline. After reviewing the
information provided to us on your AAdvantage account, your Northwest
WorldPerks account has been upgraded to Platinum Elite status. This
one-time complimentary membership upgrade will remain valid through
February 28, 2009.

Due to the timing of your 2008 complimentary Platinum Elite upgrade,
please be advised that your Platinum Elite membership will be continued
through the 2008 program year - March 1, 2009 through February 28, 2010.
You may expect your credentials for this program to be delivered prior
to March 1, 2009.

Yeah :)

Seems like NW improved... The last Status match of a friend took 3 weeks.

Flying Buccaneer Oct 9, 2008 12:13 pm

Me too

I just got this email:

The email went on to say that the status will be extended through the 2009 program year, as it was for skywalkerLAX and lucky9876coins.

The past few years, I have split my travel between AA and UA. I flew more on UA in 2004-2005, pretty equally in 2006, and more on AA in 2007-2008. For 2009, UA will be the odd man out, so to speak.

lucky9876coins Oct 9, 2008 2:10 pm

Congrats, FB!:)^

Let's plan some flights together for once.:D

Definitely. Of course, now that I am NW Elite, I don't see all those great fares that they always had when I wasn't interested!

troyb Oct 10, 2008 6:31 am

What do you guys think NW would match me with? I'm BMI Gold, AA Plat, and DL Gold. My BMI and AA accounts have minimal activity this year - BMI with one roundtrip to AUS/NZ and short intra-Asia flight both in business, AA with one domestic transcon. I wouldn't be sending them anything from my DL account.

Do you think the BMI and AA cards would be enough for NW Platinum?

jaguar Oct 12, 2008 2:26 pm

Will Northwest match my Platinum Elite status on Continental

Now that CO is leaving Skyteam, I want to switch to Northwest. Will they match my Platinum status on CO?

lucky9876coins Oct 13, 2008 11:28 am

No firsthand experience, but I'm betting they won't match quite yet. You can give it a try, but I think it'll be a few months or maybe even a year before that happens.

imaries Oct 15, 2008 8:59 pm

What am I supposed to send NW if I would like NW to match my elite status on UA? Is the monthly My Mileage Plus Summary email OK for this purpose? Thanks.

FWIW I just sent a screen shot of my main mileage summary page when I log into my MP account, and they accepted that.

Is there an e-mail address for NW status match? I searched this thread and looked through the original post but couldn't find it. Thanks.

The one that caught my eye was the fact DL and NW are merging so you could theoretically comp to DL Plat in the future. I haven't flown a Skyteam airline since 1996 (!!) but having top tier status in all three alliances would be nice.

Nope, only fax or mail.

Hi, does anyone know about the email address for NWA's WorldPerks programme to inquiry about status match. I have emailed to [email protected] with status match request and my Star Alliance Gold as well as other elite cards but got an negative reply as below. Any tips / advices would be most appreciated! thanks a lot!!! ^

However, 75,000 Qualifying Miles or 100 Segments is necessary to receive the Platinum status for a WorldPerks account. This requirement cannot be waived.

I used the fax # in the OP.
