BIS miles takes a loooooong time. I understand they give the equivalent of mid-tier elite status at 1 million BIS.

Fastest 1MM flying with bonuses was that Canadian who punched it all out with one "unlimited flying" pass in (as I recall) two months?

Fastest program miles accumulation I've heard of is 2MM in 7 days, by a guy who turned in 17 Marriott Rewards travel packages into 2.04 million miles!

Pudding Guy punched out 1MM program miles in AA within a couple months.

My own modest efforts did it more conventionally in a little under 16 months. (2MM coming early this May--a little under 24 months after 1MM).

Steve

It is program miles. He makes his TA book him into hotels giving bonuses for his FFP of choice.
STL is very important in the story-not just chosen at random.
This book goes for cheap on ABE/com or amazon.Quick and fun read-although it does get a little strung out at points.

Is Randy an official consultant for the movie?

Anyway I think this movie would make a great DO opportunity "Flyertalk goes to the movies".

could they have picked uglier airports than OMA and STL? is it supposed to be on american or a made up airline?

Actually, a lot of the airport scenes were filmed at DTW a few weeks ago. The movie crew was here in Detroit for about a week.

They've also been filming at STL. The "closed" D Concourse is being used at the airport and other scenes have been filmed around town.

I am on about 3.5 million earnt over the last 31 months.

I might have to try and estimate one day what my total lifetime earn has been...though I have only kept records the last few years. I had prior to this redeemed well over a million points just going over in my head flights redeemed...so I might well be at 5 million thereabouts.

There are some business guys thought that churn through large expenditures each and every year...so there must be some with massive earns.

Well, I made Million Miler on United last year after 27 years in the program, so I clearly wasn't "hurrying". As you know, United only counts BIS miles on United (United/Sh*ttle/Ted/United Express) metal. It's for that reason the Mileage Plus MM club is also known as the FBC -- for Flat Butt Club.

I'll hit million miler on American in a month or two after nearly 20 years in the AAdvantage program, but with fewer than 100K BIS miles (including those on TWA that carried over). Mostly bonus miles.

I heard on the radio several weeks ago in Michigan that Clooney was filming something at DTW, but whatever it is was set in Seattle.

intrepid720 Mar 30, 2009 8:07 am

so the DJ saw STL and jumped to "Seattle"? *facepalm*

I also heard that while filming at DTW, the crew was upset that the airport would not close down the tunnel between concourses in the McNamara Terminal. Why not inconvenience or misconnect hundreds of pax just so a movie can be made.

Well, why not? Here in STL, Clooney watch has overtaken local news. When I have time to watch the evening news, this is exactly what I want to know!

pseudoswede Apr 20, 2009 12:16 pm

I flew into STL on Thursday evening (9pm). The A Concourse security area was shut down and they were prepping the area for a shoot. Lots of film crew running around and a few extras sitting on benches along the hallway.

not holding hopes

I won't get too excited that it would have too many factual refs but I love the premise.

I remember being really annoyed when Memoirs of a geisha came out and they chose chinese actresses for the leads when the movie was all about Japanese culture and the tradition and beauty of the Japanese Geisha.

There is a definate difference between the two. Pretty obnoxious and missing the point but that is hollywood. I would love to see a screening of this with serious ff's. Would be funny hearing yells of "That would clearly never happen!" lol.

idealflyer Apr 28, 2009 7:52 pm

Sounds cool movie but why OMA/STL airports? True MR or FT movie would take place in a bigger transcon and intl weekend MR capable city like DC or SF.

I was also afraid they were going to make a Punch Drunk Love 2! :( That movie really had nothing to do with FF or MR.

RustyC Apr 28, 2009 8:32 pm

Yeah, they need to have him fly over a weekend on some ridiculous self-booked and self-paid segment-laden itinerary that gets undone by weather or something, while GAs rebook him to something eliminating 3 or 4 of his carefully booked redundant segments and they can't understand why he's complaining. Then TSA flags him as suspicious. :p

They also should have him attending the SIN RUN DO, it being a superlative event of sorts for frequent-flying obsessives.

With it being Hollywood, though, I'm sure there are other priorities.

Good idea, and as MR can be obsessive, can see tagline for movie
Frequent Flyer the movie, it's SINful!
