Best Uses for Expiring Cathay Pacific Miles?

My 100K Cathay Pacific Frequent Flyer miles are expiring on 10/31/03 and I am unable to use them myself. I would like to figure out a way to extend the life of these miles for my future use or get the best value for them before they expire. I live in California. Does anyone have any ideas?

If extending the life of these miles is not possible, I would like to exchange them for one or more airline tickets in someone else's name if we are able to negotiate a deal or a trade.

Ticketing must occur before 10/31/03, but travel can begin and end after this date. Business Class tickets from California to Hong Kong or Tokyo typically sell for over $6000 USD round trip. I would be interested in a cash transaction or a trade for travel vouchers, airline tickets, hotel stays, vacations or other items of similar value in miles or dollars.

Please contact me if you have any ideas on best uses for my expiring miles. Thanks!

Welcome to FT,

Please note that a miles for cash trade is not allowed, and also condemmed by this board. Also the coupon connection would be the right place to post such a request.

If you want to trade for the equivalent in other miles, drop me a line.

Thanks for your note. I have checked the rules for Asiamiles, and I can definitely deposit my miles in someone else's existing Asiamiles account for a fee. It is also possible for me to exchange my miles for a ticket in someone else's name. Therefore, I wonder why anyone would have a problem with such as transaction. I do not have any coupons for exchange so I don't think the coupon connection is the right place to post this. The exchange would be for an actual ticket or for the miles to be deposited in someone else's Asiamiles account. I understand that it would be illegal for someone else to fly on a ticket that is not in their name, and I am not offering anything like that. Could you please point me to the WebFlyer policies so that I can understand better what is or is not considered a legitimate exchange or offer on this site? I would love to know. Thanks again for your note.

You could start with The Unofficial Coupon Connection FAQ for information on how to trade, barter or otherwise use miles.

For the rules and guidelines for FlyerTalk in general, please click here.

Lastly, I would have instructed you to post in the Cathay Pacific forum, but you have already done so.

I hope you find this information useful, mspotato. Welcome to FlyerTalk!

Welcome to Flyertalk mspotato.

The MilesBuzz form is for Discussion of the latest frequent flyer program buzz. Also, it's not a good idea to "cross-post" unless there is some interesting news that you think the whole community should know about.

Take a look at the ruses of the Asia Miles program:

http://www.asiamiles.com/am/1,,22481__eng__1,00.html

Especially the following:

Asia Miles Mileage Transfer and Asia Miles Mileage Renewal

Mileage credits can be transferred to the account of any chosen redemption group member. The initial minimum block transfer is 10,000 Asia Miles at a service fee of US$100, and further Asia Miles can be transferred in blocks of 5,000 at a service fee of US$50 per block. Transferred Asia Miles are valid for a further three years.

Mileage credits which are about to expire can be extended for a further three years with Asia Miles Mileage Renewal. Asia Miles can be renewed in blocks of 2,000 at a service fee of US$10 per block.

Award redemption - general conditions

The sale or barter of mileage credits, award travel or other programme benefits is prohibited and will result in the forfeiture of all mileage credits or awards and the cancellation of membership. Violators will be liable for damages suffered or incurred by CPLP and/or Partners.

Feel free to re-post this in the Coupon Connection as I am closing this here.

You only have 100000 miles. Not enough for the ticket you are describing!!!
You only have enough miles for a business class ticket to 7500 miles on Cathay.
or at least that is my understanding.
