Do NOT rely on these miles to extend your Skymiles expiration date! This is not partner related and DL will cancel your account for inactivity...no mercy, learned this the hard way for my wife's account a few years ago...all those 10k Skymiles for an online DL registration (was it Dash for miles or something like that?) went poof and tried in vain to get them to relent but they showed no mercy!

Thanks. I took a few minutes and registered all family accounts, also seeing nothing on the site promising any miles. Best case they will post; worst case they won't and I will remember that Delta miles have become all but worthless anyway so I won't shed too many tears....

100% correct....Delta does not recognize this as "partner related" and it will NOT extend your expiration date for FF miles earned.

how can that be? Is not a mile a mile? How did you try to fight them on this and can you share those details? Maybe you still could. And if what you say is so, thanks for the tip... now people should go buy something via the mall.

Ingy: Thanks for the post. Now, do you think there's a yet to be found cool way to CHURN this into one huge account?
You know I'm wonderin!

Emailed first. Called next. Called and talked to a supervisor next. Always nice first but firm in my case that this is a misleading condition and I should be given a break.....and on and on....if it was a few hundred miles or up to a 1,000 miles I would just let it go...but this was close to 10,500 miles....DL was just VERY firm about this....I hate them baestards

Delta "Bonus Miles" do not delay expiration, only "Miles" do . The word "Bonus" seems to be the key.

Virtually every freebie that Delta offers involves Bonus Miles. To get Miles, you need to fly, buy with DL credit card or use Rewards Network. (There may be others also.)

If you check your DL account, you will see Miles and Bonus Miles tallied separately.

What Middle_Seat said.

As far as Skymiles expiration is concerned, a bonus mile is NOT a mile. If you ventured to Delta Forum in the last couple of years, you would have seen countless tragic stories when Dash-to-Gate or Siteseer Vote bonuses failed to extend the life expectancy of now-expired Skymiles.

Among the FFPs I collect miles, Delta Skymiles seems to be the most restrictive on the "eligible activities" to extend mileage expiration.

There are only four types of "eligible activities" that extend Skymiles expiration: (see SkyMiles Rules & Conditions: here)
Currently, miles will not expire as long as you participate in one of the following activities at least once every two years:
