Which airlines do you have in mind?
You usually can't transfer miles, but can get a reward in a partner airline.
You can "transfer" them using Hilton, but you lose a lot of their value, and also be aware of the HHonors 75% devaluation that is coming soon.
If you could give more details we could give you better information

Edited to add: this will change somewhat with the changes to the AA exchange rates, but you should be able to figure it out without too much trouble.

There is really no good way of transfering the miles, some people swap rewards in the Coupon Connection.
You might want to post what is the award that you want in AA.

UA could be transferred to Diner's Club, but when transferring to AA you would lose half it's value. If you wait and DC has it's double awards with BA, you could have BA miles which I think could be used on AA. But you might be better off keeping them as BA miles. What is it that you are ultimately trying to accomplish.

Transfer of miles between FF programs is really a myth. Some people go FF to HH for consolidation. Others earn SPG on credit card, transferable to many FF programs.
It is a question that gets asked frequently, especially by newcomers, often with the seeming assumption that it is simple if you are "in the know".
So I'm curious, where did you get the idea that it was possible? Just doing some Urban Legend research...

Not totally urban legend.
I just finished a transfer of 25,000 useless Continental miles to my United account via Amtrak. I lost 0 miles in the transfer.
Rare... but it can be done...

I think you can go UAL-Amtrak-CO -- at least Amtrak will transfer points to CO. Amtrak has a 25,000 mile per calendar year limit on transfers and last I looked there were only a few hours left in this calendar year. Also be persistent: it took me three calls to CO before I got someone who was willing to move my miles to Amtrak.
P.S. Credit should go to GLeff who posted about this originally.
