Multiple Frequent Flyer Memberships

If you are a member of two frequent flyer programs can you present another airline's membership card if you are already a member of the airline which you will be flying?

For example, if you are a member of both Cathay Pacific and American Airlines program, can you present your CX membership card when you fly American Airlines? Or can you only do that if you aren't a member of airline you will be flying?

Welcome to FT! As long as the airlines have a partnership, such as the CX/AA you mentioned, you should be fine. Keep in mind that some airlines have different rules on what fares you can get credit for or what fares offer elite qualifying miles (EQM) but, in general, you should be okay. Check with your airline for the particular rules.

Welcome from me also. The answer to your question is absolutely yes. If when you book Airline A and don't enter your Airline A FF number, but your Airline B number, Airline A will never know you hold their card. People do this all the time to obtain benefits or run up status in one particular program: you might hold three or four OneWorld cards, but concentrate your earnings in one program because its redemption options are more attractive to you, etc.

I've been with SQ FF program for a while... But for some reasons, I decided to sign up with UA, US, CO, NW, and others... So i have accounts with quite a few but usually credit the miles to SQ only, except for NW flights (which i hardly do now...)

Most recently, i bought a ticket on USairway's website... But i entered my SQFF# during the purchasing process... And upon check-in, the SQFF# showed up on the printed ticket... I always make it a point on checking that... If it doesnt, i will get the personnel at the counter to do it right away... The miles usually show up on the SQ database the next day or the day after...

And i have done the same for UA and even DL... And there is no problem on crediting the miles onto SQFF account...

So u will be fine...

Just to clarify: it doesn't have to be a full-blown partnership, as with AA and CX both in oneWorld. It just has to be a mileage-earning deal, of which there are many more. Those don't generally count toward status (a few do), but if you already have that and want miles toward awards in another program, you should be fine.

And welcome to FT, again!

In your specific example, if your intention is to earn AsiaMiles, make sure your ticket is in the eligible booking class/fare. You can find all the details from their website:

American Airlines: AsiaMiles Airline Partner

If you would have further questions regarding any specific airline, other than going to the airline website, you may also visit FT's airline FFP forum, such as American AAdvantage, or Cathay Pacific Asia Miles to look up the answers or post your questions.

Welcome to FT!

welcome to the addiction of mile talk and good luck.

I would just say that whenever you do any mile transaction, keep printed records of it so if you need to, you can fax or mail copies of them to the airline with which you want all your miles to post. Sometimes the airlines mess up and delay or misplace their own copies of such records, so keep your own manually. It's a pain sometimes but it's often worth it in the end!

Other than that, safe travels and enjoy it!
you can earn from partners. Concentrate on where you fly to and from and work out which ones to earn on based on that, and make it simple and easy for yourself by having fewer airlines to work with in terms of where your earnings go.

Isn't This Nice?

Isn't it nice that a whole clump of FTers have individually welcomed jaguhkampung to the community and answered his question with patience, tolerance and enlightening detail? Isn't it nice that nobody wrote "Do a search!" or used the rolled-eyes emoticon or otherwise took a swipe at a newbie? Isn't this a better place when people act nice? This the FT I used to know. ^

While what everyone said is completely true, there is one caveat that you should be aware of - If you are flying on ABC Airlines and crediting to DEF airlines, and are elite on ABC, you may not be able to take advantage of the ABC upgrade program, certain benefits, etc. It depends on the partnership, but it has been known to happen.

yes, that's because Bush cannot be elected again next year and the Red Sox won the world series. This is why everyone is nice now.

Also, it is nice that the OP came back to thank US!

As long as you are flying in an airlines that is part of the same alliance your can use your membership card. So , you're fine with CX and AA since they are both part of the OneWorld alliance.
