Miles program for America West Flight?

Hi,
I have flown America West a few times because they were the cheapest airline for last minute flights. They forget to credit you miles half the time. I also tried the NW route but it did not work. They accepted my World perks number when I made the reservation, but no miles. Also they cancel flights at whim out of JFK.
