Again, why is everyone so paranoid?

fireflyreaction Dec 31, 2001 10:26 am

this is interesting...

when i log into goldpoints, i get "Current Balance: NOT AVAILABLE"

i wonder if they've taken anyone who ordered from valuemags while the promo was still on out of the system temporarily while they fix the point posting?

pitflyer Dec 31, 2001 10:37 am

I got the same Not Available message, and it took forever to log in and pull the page up. Hmm!

That part of the display (the banner on top showing the points] belongs to Goldpoints, not to the merchant at which you are shopping.

fireflyreaction Dec 31, 2001 10:48 am

yeah..took forever for me too

could be that the script that displays your points is timing out....that's all.

well, we'll see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I got a nice email this morning promising bonus points for being such a good customer. They said they would post by the end of January. And I only ordered $150 worth of ValueMags.

And where did that banner come from? GoldPoints website ... it's a frame on the GoldPoints website ... as a matter of fact, I don't think ValueMags says anywhere on their site they award GoldPoints ... could be wrong about that though (they are affiliated with many rewards programs though).

The triple points promo is a GoldPoints promo, not Valuemags. Valuemags awards you 150 GoldPoints/dollar and Goldpoints triples it. Once you have 150 GoldPoints/dollar, Valuemags has fulfilled what they are delivering, the other 300 GoldPoints/dollar comes from a promo run by GoldPoints.

fireflyreaction Dec 31, 2001 11:47 am

littleleaguemom - what kind of bonus are you getting? who sent the email?

amlowe Dec 31, 2001 12:37 pm

The bonus is for 1250 points. Not very big relatively speaking but still a nice gesture. The email is from Goldpoints.

Neal Dec 31, 2001 2:38 pm

Beckles: The point I'm trying to make, is that valumag is a player in the promotion just like Goldpoints. You think they're going to tell a judge or anyone else, "Gee, we only promised 150 points per dollar and have no idea how that banner on our web site got there!"

Valuemags, and the other merchants where you can shop through Goldpoints, do not put that banner on their websites. It's done with HTML frames. Frames are a way to build a displayed page that contains information from more than one site.

I could make a LeapPoints website with a link to United Airlines itinerary creation page that has a banner on top saying "10,000,000 LeapPoints per every dollar being spent". It would not be UA's fault if you bought tickets and then didn't get the LeapPoints. It would be mine, as the person that controls the displayed text and who lead you to it with a link.

Curious, did anyone order from ValueMag after the promotion ended on the website and after getting assurances from Goldpoints they would indeed honor the 450 points per $ spent??

Hickory Farms pulled its 225 pt. offer 48 hours earlier than its published January 4 ending date.

SameerUCLA Jan 3, 2002 9:11 am

Yeah, I bought mags "after the fact".

I got the assurance from GP to honor the 450 points, so I went ahead and donated $2000 of magazines to my local library. Worse comes to worse, I'll get less miles - but I'll still have given a nice donation to an institution that I've used for the past 20+ years.

No, the current HF promo is 40% off everything (through 1/4/02). The triple GP offer ended on 12/31/01 as advertised.
