I've been hesitant on doing the magazine cancelling because it might be fraud. I've been trying to figure the legal issues myself really. Can't you just say you ordered magazines then decided you didn't want them? This is actually true. You did change your mind. I mean who wants $1000 of mags anyway? They SHOULD take away your points since you returned the item. However, if they "forget", then it's not your legal resposibility to remind them.
Points aren't related to your order and gold points says points have no value. Say you bought something from the store with an ad: Buy a widget get a FREE pencil. So you're paying for the widget and NOT the pencil. If you later return the widget and keep the pencil and they don't ask for the pencil, are you legally bound to return the pencil later? Finally gold points couldn't nail you with a legal fine anyway because they say on their site "goldpoints have no value" so you getting free points means they aren't giving you anything for free. |

ananish, you really should be better informed.
The justice system, it turns out, is usually extremely sensible. If you order a magazine and cancel it, the law will not assume that you'd ordered the magazine with the intention of cancelling. If you order 5 magazines and cancel all of them, the law is still unlikely to bother with something so trivial. If you order 500 magazines and cancel all of them, the law is very likely to conclude that you never intended to keep them. As for the value: the law recognizes that an animal that quacks and looks like a duck is, in fact, a duck, even if the duck's owner tries to insist that it's a horse. If 4 million goldpoints buys 10 1st class tickets, it is foolish, and the law will pay no attention (except to question your credibility), to suggest that goldpoints have no value. Dunno -- can you can convert some of your 4 million points to, say, 250 hours of an attorney's time (to cover your various court appearances)? |
You're all probably right. I think you have a right to cancel the magazines but the catch probably is you they prove you NEVER intended to keep them in the first place, that's probably fraud.
|
I think proof is simply that you ordered so many more products than you could ever use, and immediately (or near enough) cancelled those orders. Based upon the postings I've seen from you, it's no wonder why your account is under investigations.
At the school I went to, your advocacy is called "quibbling", and it falls into the same class as lying, cheating, and stealing. It is all outside the bounds of morality as we understood it. As others have said, there are other places to post besides here. Please find them. ------------------ It is better to spend money like there's no tomorrow Than to spend tonight like there's no money! |
Just wondering...
Is the 450 to 1 deal is on till the end of this year? (even if we have to fax and call GP and VM several times to make sure we got our 450 points) I'm ready for another last shopping spree for this year... |
Kimo, this promo has been pulled.... see the Randy forum for details in a thread started by Worldbanker. Cheers!!

However, these are points posted at the rate of 150 per dollar for a small order placed AFTER the 450 promo was pulled. I suppose I could argue for the full 450 points per dollar since the promo was advertised as going on until 12/31. However, I'll wait and see if I get full credit for my other orders placed before the promo was pulled. If so, this is water under the bridge. Also, to complain about not getting 450 points per dollar for this small order would be very petty. [This message has been edited by Neal (edited 12-29-2001).] |
Regarding canceling magazine subscriptions from valuemags, someone posted an email from them in another thread. They said cancel in the first 30 days they'll refund 50%, after that no refund.

I may be the last person to discover the "Account History" page at GoldPoints.com. In case I'm not, it is instructive to visit there. First go to My Account, then to Account History.
In my case, all is OK except for -- one 150-450 point-per-mile error on 12/24 (request for fix was faxed to 763-212-5747 this afternoon). -- purchases of >$400 not yet posting (expected to occur by Jan 2, as per earlier info in this forum). -- one totally inexplicable error for a Dec. 20 purchase These are good pages to Save or Print, in case of future difficulty with VM or GP. ------------------ Middle_Seat |
You guys didn't mind at all when ordering magazine subs from ValueMag.com without seeing the padlock sign? (secure site) Is it just my browser or actually there was no security at all?

1) For those of you who've ordered more than $700 worth of magazines, would you be so kind as to let us know when your points posted?
2) Also, what was the SPREAD or number of days they took to post? if you had a large order and they posed quickly -- do you think it was because you had an EXISTING GoldPoints card? I opened a new Radisson account on the day I ordered. 3) How many days does it take for GoldPoints to be converted and show up in one' s UA account? FYI: I ordered $768 on 12/22 and $178 on 12/23 and have not seen any points posted as of yet. Thanks!! |
Just wanted to post and see if anyone else is in the same boat as me.
I placed 5 orders with Valuemags between 12/22 and 12/23, for amounts between $350-400, before the 15% discount. So far only one order has posted on GoldPoints. I didn't want to get caught up with the faxed confirmation and possible 30-day delay, and thus spread out my orders. Not sure if this was in vain as I received a e-mail on Friday asking for the faxed confirmation. Guess I will send it in, even though none of my orders exceeded $400 limit. Any thoughts on this? Also, what was said about Jan 2nd and the posting of miles? |
My thoughts on the fax:
Ignore it. They have no right to ask you to sign something that affects the guarantee posted on the website in a negative way AFTER you order and they charge your credit card. If you sign it of free will, that's fine, they limit you. But you have no duty to sign it. |
