My favorite story is that in November, 2001, in Brisbane, they took away my 4" metal finger nail file. Then Qantas served me lunch and provided a metal knife some 6-7" long. Didn't see metal knives again, but got a good laugh over it all. So it's not just in the US where things are irrational.

SR C: metal (that was LHR-ZRH operated by LX, so comment above re UK not quite correct)
BA Y: what's a knife?

No, in regard to one comment above, the UK has banned all metal, and if on Crossair, it snuck in... Please, ssshhhhhhhhhh,
don't say anything.
Crossair will get nailed for that, as they can have metal to other Euro destinations and the plane just gets turned around... The fact that the Concorde is all plastic ought to be a clue... and sorry, that is so bad!
