My favorite story is that in November, 2001, in Brisbane, they took away my 4" metal finger nail file. Then Qantas served me lunch and provided a metal knife some 6-7" long. Didn't see metal knives again, but got a good laugh over it all. So it's not just in the US where things are irrational.
