I had 46,000 miles and was concerned that not only would they cut me off before I got another 4,000, but I would lose what I had. They're supposed to be sending out new applications (since the new card is through another bank) - the new Webmiles cards will continue to build mileage on your old account. The new cards that came out through Direct Merchants will build miles in an entirely new program (which have a 20,000 mile reward, but it limits the value of the ticket to $400 - a limit that Webmiles doesn't have). Direct Merchants came out with new cards in a hurry - I haven't seen anything (card or applcation) for Webmiles.

I think I'll wait a little while for the new cards/applications to come out. I am PO'd about not having an immediate replacement card waiting for me when my old Webmiles card expired. Now I have to use a feeble Discover card in the meantime. Has anyone ever cashed in Webmiles ? I'm curious to know how well (or not) the program works.

i have a friend who cashed in and their travel agency was fine
i email them about transfering miles because they said they'd let you transfer and give you extra miles but since they had no other card it wasn't much of an offer i think generally the ffers who used flyer talk are not in the program but it seemed to be to be a good program since i dont travel much work for work and just want the card for miles since they say they wont charge for their new card i quess there's nothing to loose but i'm still confused

I've been using the card and have previously redeemed miles for two tickets. Found service to be great I hope Webmiles comes out with a new card. I called their office and they said they'll be sending out applications in about two weeks.

I agree with you about the poor service from Direct Merchants Bank. I'm waiting for my new Webmiles card and will use them and throw away the card from Direct Merchants Bank. I had three of my friends sign up and they gave everyone very low credit balances compared to other companies. Also Direct Merchants Bank has a cap of $400 when redeeming a domestic ticket.

yes!! direct merchants gave me a low credit balance and so i was breaking my daughter's college tuition into a number of payments it was a pain
i agree with you the travel service of webmiles is excellent when my friends have cashed in miles
do we need to call to cancel the direct merchants card or just dont use it???

do you need to call them to cancel the new card or just not use it

I signed up for webmiles through my Ralphs card. As far as I can see from their website, the only benefit I can see from it is that I can get $300 off any ticket if I accumulate enough miles. Am I missing something?

yes you have $100 $200 and $300 discounts
which gives you some flexibility
but basically you are right which is why i guess not many flyer talk members are excited about it
but there service except for the old direct merchants credit card was great
and they do have no blackouts and you can choose any airline
i have though of aa and citibank but have decide to stay with webmiles for now
unless i'm missing something

Jaguar - thanks for the post. It's good to know these miles work the way I hoped they would.

I think most of the people that post to this site are frequent FLYERS. I'm not - I don't travel in my business. But I can run a lot of reimburseable expenses through a credit card, so I'm always trying to find the best way to get free tickets. I had the same problem everyone else had with Direct Merchants - they were tight with the credit limit. So far, Webmiles is the best program I found. If someone has a better offer, please let us know.

i'm in the same boat no work travel so get miles just by using the credit card
good to hear people feel highly of them

i told direct merchants i was dumping them
and am paying off my balance
when i called the sales person said "we are webmiles" i just get bad vibes from direct merchants actually they were written up somewhere as one of the highest finance charge credit cards

webmiles says 2 more weeks for their credit card application

i suspect they were blind-sided by direct merchants on this one otherwise why wouldn't they have a replacement compnay waiting in the wings

I just got a notice from MCI/WorldCom they are dropping Webmiles effective February 2002. Hope this is not an indication of problems besides Direct Merchants Bank.
