I've got nine more segments on AA later this month...I'm a scrawny, middle-aged, 130-pound, 5'6" little Asian guy. BoSoxFan45, how bout sitting in 1B on my segments? Talk about peace of mind

Aloha.

I have mentioned before that I carry an old leather briefcase that I keep full of heavy books. I have used it as a block, wedge and crowd breaker in school. In school! It weighs more than 40 pounds. The edges are squared off so they hurt!

What could you do with such?

New FAA regulations for carry-ons means you probably won't be allowed to bring it (if you carry on one bag and a laptop case).

Those jokers just don't get it, do they? They think we're fat, dumb, and stupid. Well, we were, before September 11. Now we're smarter. In the book that they found, they said that the hijackers should scream God is great in Arabic when they tried to take control of the planes. If they tried it again, they wouldn't be able to finish the phrase before someone was kicking their ....

I only wish these terrorists were dumb enough to try it again. They would fail. The people on the plane might die, but you wouldn't have a situation where they'd be able to crash it into a landmark.

I think it is fair to assume that bin Laden or whoever else would be interested in attacking US airliners will find it extremely difficult.

Just to say that I would rate being aboard an US airplane among the safest places to be at the moment.

I agree that flying is extremely safe on US planes now; but I'd give up my carry-on life style, if I thought my briefcase would be of any benefit. I haul it to and from school each day (good exercise anyway) and keep it next to me in my classroom. I'm within earshot of several lady teachers who weigh about 130 pounds each. I figure I can run fast with my briefcase if I hear a scream.

I have good credentials for teaching, but I think one major reason I was hired was my size and fitness.

Flying is safer than teaching.

All OBL has to do is read the news to know that any s**t happens in the cabin and passenagers have not hesitated to tackle and restrain offending party. I personally am not afraid to fly (feel it is even safer) now my 6'4" 250lbs husband is a little on the leary side. But he'll get over it real quick. Son is in Air Force and is one of the deployed soldiers. They all are ready willing and able to kick butt!!!

Why is everyone assuming the terrorists will be using passenger planes next time? They surely learned from the attacks too.

I think that if OBL & Co try to use planes as missiles again, they will hijack large cargo planes, with no passengers to stop them. They would just order cargo flights and travel with the cargo, or sneak into the plane as airport employees.

This shows once again that passenger travel is safe... unless the terrorists crash into the line of passenger planes loading at the terminal.

I think that they will target the aviation again. The terrorizing effect of a second row of hijacking would be even more devastating, and that's what Osama & friends want. The US should better catch them fast.

I wonder how long it will be before the next drunk fool enaged in air rage because he can't get another drink will be killed by all these primed passengers.

I'm flying to MSP in about 4 hours. I hope there isn't a problem . . . but if there is . . . God help the troublemaker . . . (He doesn't need to worry about me -- I'll be fine.)

I don't think they will use planes again but who knows.. ?? Honestly, I'm not afraid to board a plane again (as I usually fly to Latin America and I doubt they'll target a LA flight- I could be wrong though ! ) but what I am afraid of is the possibility of bombs going off in public places, specially in NYC.
I feel unsafe living in this city. Everytime I enter the subway or go somewhere in midtown, I feel something bad is going to happen. However, I do feel somewhat more comfortable to see military personnel in the city. I just hope the **** that comes out of Bin Laden's mouth will never happen. We'll see.. Ok, I'm out..adios

U.S. airlines and their take-no-nonsense passengers are pretty safe, I agree, but what about a flight on a foreign carrier flying into this country? Iberia, AeroMexico (or is that Mexicana?), Air Pacific from Fiji or any number of others?

I doubt Iberia will be a threat, security at european airports is as strict as US airports, especially for US bound flights.

You raise a very good point that I had not thought of before. However, I doubt that they will be successful, as there are a number of Combat Air Patrols flying round the clock at a number of our cities just in case this should occur again. They would shoot the syucker out of the sky at a moment's notice, and the decision would be all the easier since there would be no passengers aboard.

I think that 'Sama and crew might try to hijack a cruise line. After all, how well does the cruise industry really look into the background of those they employee for the long voyages? I am not saying that it will be some sort of suicide mission, however, they could sneak explosives aboard and attempt to blow it up while in port. Or, they could do what Abbas did and just take hostages and start executing them if the Afghan war is not halted. I am not saying that they would be successful, for I think that they will damage their efforts even more, but then again, they are not playing to Western public opinion.
