Minetta told Jim Lehrer on a special PBS News Hour just now that reopening DCA would be a National Security Council decision.

Last weekend I drove to Hagerstown, Maryland (I'm a us1 so it seemed the logical thing to do) so I could be with my family for the weekend. It took 90 minutes or so coming from Alexandria, which is competitive with BWI.
The nice thing about Hagerstown is that the checkin/security scan is FAST. Now I just need to convince U to refund me the difference between HGRCAK fares ($100 or so) and my DCACAK fares which I thought were a bargain at $125...
I really miss National. It's a great airport and very convenient for those of us who need to be in DC. I hope it's reopened if only to show our defiance to the terrorists that have made travel so difficult.

90 minutes from alexandria to hagerstown? You had to be zooming, because it's more than 80 miles.
You'd need 3 hrs on an average afternoon...don't forget all the 270N/70 traffic.

The New York Times & WSJ also reported that National is closed. The question is will "indefinitely" mean "forever"?

Just called Delta about a DCA flight on Friday, asking if I needed to reschedule it out of Dulles or if I should just wait and see. They said I needed to reschedule. Flying to Cleveland via Cincinnati on some ComAir segments. I went to look at the seating chart and it looked like I snagged the last assignable seat on one of the segments. The other flights looked like about 70-80% of the seats were assigned. I'm not sure how full the flights will end up being.

The guy I talked to at SMS was very nice, and asked me if I wanted to keep the same dates and cities or not. I'm not sure what would have happened if I wanted to cancel and get a refund on account of the airport not being open.

Flying out of Dulles under new security restrictions will add about 3.5 more hours to my day.

Here is the latest on Reagan National.

I find it interesting that one of the options that they are thinking about is allowing only southern takeoff-northern landings to avoid the White House, Pentagon, etc. As the expert says later in article they can't survive doing that.

They also mention that only 18 planes are left at the airport. I live in North Alexandria under the flight path and heard planes taking off this morning. There may be no planes left at National now.

If DCA closes, given their already-precarious financial situation coupled with the losses of this week, would that be the final nail in US Airway's coffin?
