JRF: They are always very nice to me when I call. It always seems as if I'm making progress too. But nothing happens! Have you received a check from Compubank yet or have the funds been wire transfered to another account? Until that happens, don't take anything for granted. This bank, which at one time had great CS is now very bad news.

ASCJSTEP: They told me just the opposite. I called to cancel my account. They said I had to send a "bank mail." I did in which case it got lost in the shuffle. I was told,
"we've been receiving tons of bank mails."

I called to cancel my account over 2 weeks ago, I was told to send a bankmail, which I did. Didn't hear back within 5 business days, so i sent another, and called again. Was told "closing an account takes 10 days." So, since my paypal account was linked to my CB acct, I added the entire contents of the CB acct to my paypal, which came through in 2 business days. So, I have my money, and I'm having paypal send it to my other (credit union) account. So, bottom line, My money's safe, and compubank can keep the 3c interest or whatever they owe me. I am done with them.

I have been having problems too. I sent them a bank mail on January 31. When the account was still open on February 6, I called Compubank and requested it be closed as I had stated in my bank mail. The rep pulled the bank mail up and admitted it was overlooked. He said he would get it taken care of. The account was deactivated on-line the next day, but still no check. I called again today and was told it takes 7-10 Business days to get the check. Its been 7 days already....we'll see if I get my money by the end of next week.

Never close a bank account that has more then a few pennies in it. Write a check into another account, ATM or whatever, but if you are banking online leave a couple of pennies in it when you close it and you never have to worry about waiting for the money.

Looked today and my MM account is closed, and interest was credited to my checking account. As soon as 1 visa transaction clears, I will write a check so the balance will be zero.

They accepted my bank mail and phone call as enough to close the MM account. If I have a problem with closing the checking account, my fallback with be the FDIC site which I think takes complaints about member banks.

Many good things come to an end, and CompUBank is one of them. It was good while it lasted and I probably got 10K miles out of them.

I, too, sent a bankmail to close the account (about 2 weeks ago), and haven't heard anything. Fortunately, I had written a check for the balance in the account, so all they owe me is a little bit of accrued interest.

I'll follow up with a phone call.

I have a friend who signed up with Compubank purely in order to get clickmiles, and they cancelled the Clickrewards association before the account opening had gone through! She's closing the account again, of course.

I never signed up with Compubank because they refuse to allow anyone to sign up who isn't a US Citizen.

It's a very interesting phenomenon: Every "bricks-and-mortar" US financial institution that I've asked will open accounts for non-US citizens.

However, every one of these little upstart internet banks that I've come across refuse point blank to process anyone who doesn't have a US SSN.
