That's a fairly stupid assumption on their part, in some states, like mine, car registrations are based on the first letter of your last name, it's pro rated until your next registration due date. Doesn't matter when I purchase a car, the registrations are all due in June.

The person I was speaking with put me on hold and came bck and said knock yourself out and that they had no problem with it. The person gave me their employee number and name.
That's interesting, because it is a violation of their TOS, and it's a violation of your agreement with your credit card company.

exactly. the guy is probably choosing "non-auction goods" or "services" and not "quasi-cash" which is a violation of all credit card clauses and is also in a sense, fraud.

Did you ask them which part of

Your Information and your activities (including your payments and receipt of payments) through our Service shall not: ..... (c) consist of providing yourself a cash advance from your credit card (or helping others to do so),

it was not a violation of? They probably asked and were told to tell you anything to get you off the phone, so they could deal with the next yahoo asking the same thing. Then they gave you a name and employee number from their list of names to use and numbers to use. They will all get a good laugh when they freeze your account and tell them, no, Bill, number 4399876 told me it was OK.

They will tell you there is nobody named bill 439..., and you are in violation because you are providing yourself a cach advance, which as quoted above is clearly in violation of their TOS, and they are notifying your credit card company.

It's not worth it. If you get caught you will be fighting for weeks to get your account unfrozen.

I also sat through all the 4 conversations, for the better part of an hour. Most important thing I learnt: if I do not agree with the privacy and user agreement, I need to cancel my account while it is still in good standing. Then, for extra security on my part, to change my checking account. This is a scary Paypal halloween story; but I had previously known them to be such, which is why I did not partake of this apparent "loophole".

Yup! Every time I learn more about these folks I despise them even more.

I hate Paypal for their ridiculous fees. eBay already charges me enough seller and insertion fees. I have no choice, since many of my buyers use Paypal, and I recieve payment faster and safer. A $100 transaction- in the end, all I get is about $94. I charge more shipping to have the buyer pay a little bit of the costs.

I wondered why most of the sellers seem to have high shipping costs. I have even offered to use my FEDEX number for shipping a couple things to save money, but the sellers refused.

I agree on PayPal. It makes me think of what Bank of America would be like if BellSouth were to take them over.

Yeah, I do that too. I agree with hongkongtraveller. Between the eBay fees just to list, plus the percentage of the transaction they get, plus the PayPal fees, the difference between your sale price and net revenue is pretty big.

If someone offered me their FedEx number, I'd oblige though.

I tried to make a Paypal purchase for $1800 today...have plenty of credit but my card was rejected. I call Amex and they tell me my card has a $1500 limit PER STATEMENT for Paypal transactions and no, they cannot pre-approve a larger transaction, and no they cannot make an exception....

I called back and got a supervisor to approve my $1800 purchase, but if I have to do that every time its not worth it.
