Do you normally transact that amount via PayPal with you AMEX?

I called back and got a supervisor to approve my $1800 purchase, but if I have to do that every time its not worth it.
I just spoke to AMEX and they told me there is no official limit on PayPal transactions. Perhaps it was declined initially because the transction was 'outside your pattern'? I had similar issues with my MC, so I always had to call ahead of time (before the transaction) to warn them it was coming. I guess I need to do the same for AMEX...

When I spoke to Paypal a couple of months ago--they told me that there was a $2500 monthly limit on AMEX transactions that was instituted by AMEX.

Maybe I had the luck (or lack of it) to speak to a rep who didn't know what I meant?

It's been known to happen before. I'm scared to call again in case it raises any 'flags'.

Believe it is in reference to e-bay

My understanding of that e-mail - I got it also - is that is for paypal fees related to e-bay transactions made for that day

My fee of $0.34 for my $1.5 test (just to see how it works) is already credited back. It is a quasi-cash transfer not related to ebay. However I did not dare to try large amounts.

I thought cc transactions submitted as quasi-cash posted to the credit card as a cash advance? At least, they used to.

My ~$200 fee on my ~$6000 charge has not yet credited to my account, I just checked. There must be an investigation going on.

I have a couple of Paypal accounts -- for one of them, my fees were just refunded about an hour ago. For the other, nothing yet. No idea why ...

I had legitimate sales for that day through my non-profit account that had about $6 in fees refunded yesterday.

Strange indeed. I have gotten different answers from different people...it seems both Amex and Paypal have restrictions that are not applied accross the board.

I just made a $500 purchase followed a few minutes later by a $5500 Paypal purchase on an Amex! This surprised me!

Amex tells me different things depending who I talk to. Earlier this month I couldn't make a $1800 Amex purchase....

The ~$200 fee on my ~$6000 charge just credited to my account this morning, I just checked. No problems whatsoever and I just transferred all the money out of Paypal. So I guess I got 6,000 miles (not to mention a lot of stress after taking advantage of this and THEN reading all the posts against it after the fact) thanks to the OP. I guess I can't complain.
