change 'non-refundable' ticket
Hi all.
Simple question from a simple mind <g>...
If I purchase a deeply discounted, 21-day advance purchase Sat night stay (etc.), then cannot use the ticket on the date of departure, can I use the ticket at a later date for a fee?
Is there a fare that is not Y-class that can be changed ?

Yes, you can use the ticket for up to 1 year by paying a fee and any di has ffference in the fare. Yes, there are refundable/changeable tickets besides Y fares. I know CO has fares that are refundable/changeable that are much, much less than Y fares. I'm sure most all the airlines have these fares.

Yes you can change the ticket, you have up to one year on most airlines. However, you have to pay the fee that the airline charges, which ranges from $35 to $50 plus whatever the difference in cost for the flight you are booking. Thus, a flight you purchased for $300, which is now selling for $350 would cost you $100 more. If the flight costs less, which is unusual, you get no money back. And my experience has been, that they still charge the change fee.

As I recently wrote somewhere else around here, when I travel on business, I almost always get a fully refundable ticket, and the class is almost always lower than Y, usually M, H, or B and sometimes Q and K, depending on the route and advance purchase.
These fully refundable tickets of course allow me to not fly or change my flight, and I've never had Delta try and charge me more for changing one of these tickets.

With business travel and very important leasure travel (like a honeymoon or wedding trip) I too purchase full fare (unless it's my company buying and it will try to work out a deal.) You never know if more work is needed on that presentation or if you have to cancel that once in a lifetime trip for some unforseen emergency.
I alwasy try to get tickets where I can change them (even if I'm stuck with paying a 75 dollar change fee, it's better than having to buy a NEW ticket!) CATMAN

Recently had to change dates and routing on 2 non-refundable AA tickets - Agent DID NOT charge a fee - the price of the new tickets was LOWER - and the agent gave me vouchers for the difference! - Was I lucky - or the agent just extra nice?
