Problems with Expedia

Has anyone had problems with Expedia quoting you a price for tickets then billing you for more? I purchased two tickets for the Holidays for my wife and I yesterday. The price quoted was $560. I refreshed the screen to make sure the offer was still good and it was. I purchased the tickets and the confirmation showed that I was charged a total of $620. Never was I given a screen showing that the price had changed. Talk about bait and switch. I called the friendly folks at Expedia and they insisted that I should have been shown a screen alerting me to the fare change. I assured them that I had not and they told me that I was the first to ever have this problem. Yeah right. Anyone else experience this and what was the resolution. After I hung up the phone I went back and checked my computer which still had the confirmation on the screen and scrolled back page after page. Guess what, no page warning me that the fare had changed showed up.

I've used Expedia several times to purchase airline tickets. Recently I've noticed that the fare quoted does go up when it comes to the final pricing (due to fuel surcharges), but they always have given me an accurate price at the final confirmation screen.

Unfortunately, the price I agreed to pay and the price I was charged were inclusive of all fees and fuel surcharges. This was strictly a fare change that apparently occurred in the nano-second that I agreed to the fare and when the transaction was confirmed. That's what bothers me. If their database isn't updating in time, how can you trust the price they're quoting. If you book on the airline site, at least you have some recourse. Expedia frankly didn't see that I had been wronged by their site.

They'll begin to understand if you challenge the charge with your credit card company and refuse to pay.

this has happened to me twice on expedia in the past month. both times I was quoted one fare AND fare basis but the issued ticket was charged at a different fare and fare basis. When I called Expedia they gave me the same line about my complaint being the first. So I did exactly what CO FF has said. After receiving the dispute from my CC company they quickly reversed their stance and credited back the difference. So if the the fare differences are large enough you should pursue this through your CC company.

Over several years I have purchased many tickets from Expedia and have never had a problem. What few times the price changed prior to purchasing, I was always advised and given the opportunity to proceed or cancel. This new policy saddens me and should neveroccur. I feel it is illegal?

I haven't had the problem with Expedia, but I have experienced similar situations with Travelocity. I was booking a car rental with Hertz on the Travelocity website and after having given me a price for the particular car class and requesting all credit card information....the confirm comes back with a much higher price per day! . This has happened many times, when I called them they explained that the company (in this case, Hertz), changed their rates but had not yet notified Travelocity, so the final confirmation rate reflects the higher price.
