I haven't had the problem with Expedia, but I have experienced similar situations with Travelocity. I was booking a car rental with Hertz on the Travelocity website and after having given me a price for the particular car class and requesting all credit card information....the confirm comes back with a much higher price per day! . This has happened many times, when I called them they explained that the company (in this case, Hertz), changed their rates but had not yet notified Travelocity, so the final confirmation rate reflects the higher price.
