Real Time Posts

I'm not sure where the proper place to ask this question, but why does it take hours lately to see responses posted? I'll post a reply and won't see it until the several hours later. Or, e.g., I'll see that there are 7 replies to a posting but only three are showing up? What's up with that?

ILuvParis,

The answer probably lies in your browser's settings.

If you use IE, go to Internet Options under the Tools menu, on the General tab click the settings button ... and select the radio button for "Check for newer versions of stored pages: Every visit to the page." If loading is slow, check the second option "Every time you start Explorer."

I have Netscape at work, so if that's what you use I can help you with this when I get in to the office.

It is 2 things....one as described above and also the FT site settings.

The siteis likely set to a default setting that tells your browser to get a new version that is longer than you want...

ILuvParis, this is probably not a FlyerTalk problem. Try using the Refresh button when that page is in the active window on your screen. This should be one way to solve your problem.

If you are using Internet Explorer, you may not have your browser preferences set "to check for newer versions of stored pages" with "every visit to the page." There are several options available, each with advantages and disadvantages. Your browser is most likely pulling up an earlier version of the page already stored in your cache or Temporary Internet Files Folder on your computer. This concept saves time while surfing, by not having to take the time to download the complete page again, but does not offer the latest version. Decisions, decisions!

Any time you are dealing with time sensitive material on a web site and wish the latest version, simply hit the Refresh button or set your preferences to check for the latest version with every visit to the page.

For better results and more responses to your problem, I would have posted this in FlyerTalk Technical Problems.

I hope this helps, good luck!

Hmmm. I've been notified that there are two responses to this but I don't see them...I guess somebody sees them tho, or I wouldn't have received notice that there are replies. Maybe its my computers - but it happens at home and at work. I guess I'll read all about it tonight or tomorrow.

ILuvParis: I'd like to point out another possibility. Your browser may be set up to use a caching proxy server of some type which sits between your computer and the outside Internet and stores recently accessed pages in an attempt to reduce the amount of traffic to the outside world. (Did that make any sense?) Anyways, because of this caching server, you may not be able to see recently updated webpages until a few hours later. Your system administrator/Internet service provider may have a solution.

I use Netscape at work and experience the same difficulties. The refresh button does not work. The suggestion to tweak the settings is appreciated; I will try it.

I too had this problem with an older version of Netscape

I am using 4.73 I believe and the problem has gone away.

If you look through a few of the recent tech support comments there was a suggestion by Michael at Webflyer to use Ctrl-Refresh (I think) That is what worked for me with an older version of Nscape.

FlyAAway, I'm not that familiar with Netscape but perhaps holding down the shift key while clicking Reload will make the difference?
From NetHelp - Netscape:
To refresh a page at any time:
Click Reload. The computer checks the network to make sure you have the latest version of the page. To retrieve a fresh copy of a page regardless of what's in the cache, hold down the Shift key (Option key on Mac OS) and click Reload.
Otherwise, the possibility that FewMiles mentioned may be causing your page not to reload with the latest version. If not, then hopefully changing your cache preferences will resolve the issue or some of our FlyerTalk family with Netscape expertise hold the secret. Good luck!

Netscape has many many bugs. If you switch to IE you may find that many of your problems go away and only a few new ones appear.
