Michael,

Thanks for taking this intermediate step. Hopefully that will deter some of the inappropriate postings that have occurred here. I do not find it intrusive...

Thanks

William

FT should have an explicit and RAPID policy of banning usernames and IP addresses from users such as you know who.

Get rid of 'em! Why the floundering? Take ACTION! I personally am amazed nothing has been done! (even a little embarrassed for new users to see this!)

Good morning everybody. Hope all is well. Thank you all for your support. Looks like most of you agree with the tentative steps we've taken to rectify the last days troubles.

Dorian I think we are all pretty much in agreement here as to how to handle postings of the nature that we've seen on FT in the last day. We've tried the "RAPID" approach to expulsion from the garden of our community once or twice in the past and it was met with a great deal of hostility from the remainder of our community...I believe you may have been one who didn't agree with the decisions we've made in this fashion...

I'm teasing you so please don't take me too seriously. We love you, and of course don't want to lose you, but please be patient with us and give us the support I feel that we might have earned. We want all of you to be as happy as we can possibly help you to be.

This appears to be a cut and dried situation but if you've been following it as closely as I have, and believe me I have, for the last 24 hours, you might agree that it's not quite so easy to make these sorts of judgements. Mr. Petersen and I talked at length yesterday afternoon and we have decided on a course of action that we hope will put things right. If not we'll take more drastic action until we have it under control...and yes, this includes banning the offending individual(s).

Again I'd like to thank all of you for your support and encouragement. Please be patient in this matter and we'll have everything back to normal in due course.

------------------
ThanX...

Yes, thank you so much, Michael. It is most definitely appreciated.

If I may offer a helpful suggestion, in order to avoid FT having to make mosre drastic actions, please get in touch with ---69's mother. Perhaps she can control him.

You can find her on the street in Las Vegas between New York, New York and the Mandalay Bay. Evenings only.

Michael,

Thanx for the remedies to date.

What you are likely referring to is my disagreement with the complete destruction of a post in a thread (by a FT staffer)...leaving the thread with a hole.

My feeling is the expulsion of people who violate terms of service repeatedly in the way that has happened in the past day, should happen immediately. Things should never have dragged on so long. If Randy is away you should have authority to make this decision. Look what it did to things around here!

Dorian

p.s. just being honest and straightforward...as always

You have my vote. Nothing is too drastic in this instance.

I do agree that the offender was given too much rope.

Once, shame on him. Twice, shame on you. Should have never gotten to 35 posts.

Could someone please explain, for my own edification--as I have no idea--what exactly the ramifications of "IP logging" are.

IOW, when "tracking" is refered to in an above post, does that mean you can tell which topics a user is going to on FT, just on FT, or everywhere outside FT?

I'm not concerned about it, just curious exactly what it is and more so how and when it goes on on other sites and I'm not aware.

Thanks.

scribbler: Each computer on the internet has a unique IP (Internet Protocol) address. That address is being recorded with each post.

In some cases, the addresses recorded might be the address of the user's "proxy server" (which I won't get into).

IP addresses are registered, so it may be possible to locate the posting computer.
