Let me make a suggestion...DGOLDS has started a thread in the Intinerary Forum just for Latin Pass Mile maniacs. I personally would love to know if other FFers will be in Latin America when I am there. If you don't mind, please post your itinerary there so we can have a clean thread with just itineraries, instead of having to route through eleven-teen pages in this thread and others. Fair suggestion?

In any event, I just cannot see how Taca could unilaterally decide to re-define the English language in a highly peculiar manner through unpublished rules. It would be a different matter if Latinpass had published a definition of 'international'. Unless explicitly defined otherwise for the purposes of the promotion, international must mean between two distinct countries, wherever those two countries are situated.
Awareness of the rules of the Latinpass promotion does not seem to be overwhelmingly good among Taca agents and their statements need to be handled with a healthy degree of scepticism. I was told by them that I only needed to fly on 9 airlines for the million miles! needless to say that I am not going to rely on that...
I'm I too late to get in on the million mile
deal? Please let me know!

Cuzco is a nice town, with a couple of interesting inca sites right there. There is an amazing helicopter ride (breathtaking views of the Andes) to Machu Pichu, and a train that goes up in the morning (takes 3 hrs) and returns in the evening. Lonely Planet has a decent description. We went up by helicopter and returned by train.
One word of caution: If you take the train to Machu Pichu, it actually stops a busride away from the actual site. The buses only run till about 1.30 pm. So go directly to Machu Pichu (or at least inquire). We missed the last bus checking into a hotel.

I'm thinking about making the run by going from MGA to MIA on Taca 515 arriving at 2:25PM and then connecting on ACES 501 to BOG that leaves at 3:25PM. Is one hour enough time to make a connecting flight in Miami?

alka12: I also stayed at the Holiday Inn about 4 years ago and agree with student's comments.

If you're looking for something closer to the airport, for just a night, the Hampton Inn's not a bad choice. It's only about 5 minutes away from the airport.

Intercontinental is in a very nice suburb, Escazu, about a 20 minute ride from the airport. A bit isolated, but nicer than downtown San Jose, which is nothing worth writing home about. You'll have nice surroundings at the InterContinental but won't get too much of a flavor of being in Costa Rica.

mauigirl and topshelff: Allow some time for adjusting to the altitude. Cuzco is way up there. A friend of mine tried to do Lima-Cuzco-Macchu Picchu-Lima on a weekend during a business trip and was sick in bed all weekend because he couldn't adjust to the altitude.

FoolishRunner: No way. Personally, I wouldn't allow less than 4 hours for connections, but that's just my conservative nature. But 1 hour? Lots of airlines require you to have checked in an hour before the flight. I would guess you'll have to clear customs in MIA to get through to the ACES ticket counter. (I could be wrong there...) Even though ACES and Taca are in adjoining terminals, I wouldn't risk it.

BTW there's a nice map of MIA at http://www.miami-airport.com

Thank you all for your tips. Toppshelf--If we are in the same place at the same time we'd love to get together for a beer or coffee--I'll keep you posted on our itinerary.

I am so bummed because I am one week late on finding out about the Latin Pass deal. I am TWA and KLM FF member but they will not let me participate because they are "affiliate" members, not "partner" members. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might still get involved? Thank you. Kudos to all those who are going to earn the miles. I would love to be in your place.

The only way to do Macchu Picchu in one day is to take a helicopter there and back. The cost of an all-inclusive tour including guides and transfers all the way is approximately $ 225.00 USD. If interested I would suggest booking in advance. I know a friend and guide who lives in Cuzco who can arrange this for you in advance. His name is Francisco and he speaks good English. His cell phone number in Cuzco is 51-84-621911. His other phone is 51-84-233796. On a hotel in Cuzco, the best is the Hotel Monasterio. It is an absolutely beautiful renovated old monastery that has been converted to a hotel. They include a very nice full breakfast. Their phone number is 51-84-241777. Fax 51-84-237111. E-mail [email protected] They also offer free oxygen tanks in the room 24 hours if needed. The are one block from the main square in the center of Cuzco. Remember, you get what you pay for. Macchu Picchu is a must. Tell Francisco Mr. Arthur from AZ gave you his number. He can also arrange city, market, and nearby ruin tours.

BJJ asked me to post this

Student,
I am BJJ and i am in Quito. i have forgotten my password to post on flyertalk i tried to sign up as new username, but they havent
sent me a new password. i hope you will post this important discovery concerning ACES, They
absolutely refused to give two boarding passes for flight BOG - UIO and continuing on with
separate flight coupon going UIO - LIM. This blew us out of the water. WE had to change and
fly the second part of the two tickets the next day. Caused big problems, but we are still
going to make it. Please advise board of this in Whos Going or as new thread. I think several
people are planning to do the same thing. It wont work. ACES would not budge, even though we
had been promised when making reservations that we would get 2 boarding passes. Also, Hotel
Quito is great deal. Special is $35 for double including breakfast and shuttle for airport.
Fantastic hotel, scenic location, english speaking, internet, pool, great food......

thanks,
BJJ
