Is there any advantage of doing this? At what point should this be done? RE: MBNA Online account

Crummy news for me (since I applied for it last month)... Good news for anyone else... The welcome offer for the Scotiabank American Express Gold Card has gone up from 20,000 welcome points ($200 in travel) to 25,000 welcome points ($250 in travel). • $250 in travel (increased from $200). • 4% on gas, groceries, entertainment spend. • First year free. • Very low household income requirement to qualify. I think this is a great deal. |

If you call them and let them know the offer you received, they've matched it for me! Good luck!

So, I applied for the Scotiabank Gold Amex.
I got an email from Scotiabank saying the card was sent to my nearest branch, and I must make an appointment  to pick it up. Not sure if this will be a 3-minute procedure or an all-out sales pitch for every imaginable Scotiabank product. |

My appointment was "15 minutes" when I asked. I informed them that I have no interest in any sales pitches. 3 minutes later I was on my way
Scotiabank employee: "Oh. We didn't collect your SIN number during the application". Me: "Nope." Employee: "Can you provide it to me?" Me: "No, I didn't provide it during the application because it's not necessary." Employee: "Well it's better that we have it." Me: "I'm not giving you my SIN number." Appointment wrapped up shortly after that, and I was on my way. Bank called me the next day; said that employee didn't get my signature before handing me the card. Asked me to come back to the branch again just to sign for it. I said sure I'll come by some day. I was one of the folks who signed up for the 20,000 point bonus, just before it became a 25,000 point bonus. Amex wouldn't give me a courtesy 5,000 point bump, and said I have to go into a Scotiabank branch to ask for that. Fine. After I actually receive the 20,000 points, I'll go into a branch, and ask for those 5,000 points to be credited if they want the signature. :D I might even open a Scotiabank Momentum Chequing Account with the $200 bonus, though it will cost about $70 in fees plus some hassle in setting up transactions. |

I was waiting to see if they would come out with a 30k FYF offer, thru a cardholder's referral link(like last year...from my understanding, only some c/h's had received an offer to refer, not everyone),however, after reading that it can take 4-5 months to get the points decided to apply for the 25k offer now.I almost gave up after receiving so many technical error's from their site and via afilliate sites, using my laptop! I decided to try,one last time, using my tablet on their mobile site.....and voila! it worked
Has anyone churned this card? |
Don't know which forum to post, so thought to post it on here as I am Canadian :)
I have a ~$3000 payment come up in early June that they do not take AMEX, only VISA/MasterCard. I thought about getting VISA or MasterCard gift cards using an AMEX, but those fee (Activation or something else) seems to be a bit too much. Are there any other suggestion for a good sign-up bonus? I didn't want to just pay it with my BMO M/C or CIBC/TD Aerogold. Thanks. |
