FYI

For those with the free standard card looking to upgrade to the SURPASS without a new hard pull:

http://www304.americanexpress.com/ge...Honors-Surpass

Click on that link while signed into your AMEX account and an upgrade button will show up. The offer is for 50k after $3k in 90 days vs the 60k here, but you save a hard pull, which is great IMHO

I am still waiting on my SURPASS to arrive. It's been 3 weeks since I was approved and I called today. They said it was marked as received, but I guess it got lost in the mail?

This sounds great. You're sure the new bonus of 50K will be available?

No .. read the T&Cs on the offer. I assume that you would because it is an upgrade offer, but like anything, do your own homework.

I applied for the no-fee card today and the system said that my application was received and I would receive written notice in 10-12 business days.

This is my first AMEX in about 10 years.

Does AMEX not give instant approval? Is there a number to call to see if I was approved.

CSR confirmed 40k after first purchase, then said 20k after 8 stays with hilton. I corrected her and said "no, 20k after $3k in spend"

8 stays would probably be cheaper though strangely enough. Of course, it would be completely manufactured, unless you planned to have 8 Hilton stays in that time, whereas the $3k could be anything.

That was partly my point. Just strange to me that they offered something that was theoretically cheaper, but as noted, if not spending 8 nights, it makes no sense.

Thanks for posting. Been using the Visa Signature Hilton Honors card until now so this is a nice free alternative for extra points on gas/supermarkets/drug stores

Applied for the no-fee card yesterday AM. Received the card via UPS Express service today - without requesting rush delivery.

I have never received a card that quickly.
