Thanks to this thread, I just found out the company I work for has status match available to AA and Delta. Gold if you don't have any status or even match if you do!

Reading Flyertalk is rarely a waste of time!

After reading this thread, I still can't find a way to match my AA platinum to a star alliance (silver or gold). Does anyone have any suggestions?

You might want to search on a status match with TK.

The advertised match is "officially" closed, but various blogs report that TK may still grant a match although it may take a few weeks to hear back from them.

You can do a challenge for equivalent status with United.

You would have to fly on their metal though.

Match AA Plat to Delta Gold, then match Delta Gold with United Gold.

Yes. But I would be careful about duplicate accounts with the same airline. They tend to frown on that, if discovered.

Hmm thanks for that info
Theoretically it sounds like one could infinitely extend his/her status by doing this every year and needing to fly only the 'status match' amount of EQMs to keep the status for 1 year (if matching after July 1st)

I'm sure this is one of those ideas that only sound good on paper though

A lot of airlines will allow only once in a lifetime/every 2-3-5 years status match.
