I dream about miles
I know this is a useless thread, but I thought I'd share how miles have entered my subconscious.
There has been mentioned a couple of times about possibly another huge credit card signup bonus in the near future. My dream last night confirmed.
I was walking in a crowd and someone slipped a piece of paper into my pocket. I waited till I stopped at a coffee shop to pull it out. As I scanned the paper, I couldn't believe my eyes. It was another 100,000 miles offer for .... Spirit Airlines. I couldn't decide if I was happy for the 100k of sad that it was for Spirit Airlines.

I don't. I despise my miles. They sit there in my accounts month after month, taunting me, daring me to try to use them. They keep growing in number as I accumulate them, in futile pursuit of a dream vacation that seems farther away than ever. There is no hope of redeeming them for low-level awards, let alone traveling where I want or when I want, even if it's only to Fresno. I hate my miles. If I dream at all about them, those dreams have turned to nightmares of frustration.

Why don't you want to redeem them for lower level awards? I would love to be able to get several domestic round trips! I just started this game so I'm happy with just any bonus offers that would earn free trips.

my friend told me of a person who had found out his job was ending. His brother had been arrested and he had a curable but painful disease. Because of this he had to pull a second loan on his home to post bail for his brother and even use credit cards to help pay it.
As I sat there listening to this tale I had to blurt it out... had to:
Yeah but did he earn miles and on what airline?
It's seriously all I think about. I would be a horrible date. Everything is miles. If it's not, it's coins. They are cash so no miles, but then again if you pay with coins that you got WITH a miles earning CC then you did get miles. I hate seeming people pull out a bunch of cash to pay for things in stores. I often am tempted to lean over and offer to pay it on my CC and take their cash. I think I really will do it if I see someone dealing in over $1,000 in cash for something!
I could go on--and will in further posts--but I cant. I need tea, that I bought because there was some deal on the box or something. Some rebate or whatever, which is kinda sorta like miles in a way but not but you know what I mean so yah.
Miles and points have made me money--rather, saved it. I mean... if you go on a trip to Disney for 4 people at the last minute and spend the equiv of $3500+ in 5 days doing everything you want and staying in a property resort, and EVERYTHING is covered BECAUSE of points, miles and that Capital One match thing, then yes. You made or saved money.

I too wait for another C1 type deal. The only difference is I watch FT and if one shows up I'll take advantage of it. Otherwise I'll just go to bed tonight and get a good night sleep knowing I got a great deal with C1.

Is there such a thing with miles collection classified as an addiction? I've been collectin miles for 15 years, and its only been recent that I've started taking advantage of cc offers. But, we've been flying to Hawaii each year on points, plus another trip to a local destination as well.
Getting harder for us as a family, as I'll have 2 kids to redeem tickets as well starting next year.

Totally agree with you Marathon Man. I am a stay-at-home mom and I don't technically make any money for our family. But I really do with all the miles & points I collect for our adventures. My next goal is to fly our family to Europe first class (4 of us) in 2013. My husband laughs at me and thinks I'm obsessed. I just want to show him that I can do it. I want to see his jaw drop when he flys First Class for the first time in his life because his wife is a "Miles/Points Addict". I don't think he'll be teasing me anymore or giving me a hard time because I'm always thinking about miles when we do anything or buy anything. He is annoyed with me basically because he thinks I'm just over the top. I think he will changes his perception after the next European trip I plan and how much money we don't spend. I want to make the flights free (taxes) and most of the hotels. I think I have plenty of time and I'm already almost there with the flights because of the recent Citibank AA, Continental, & BA cc offers. I just need to earn some more AA miles to get us in First Class. Right now it's Business which I'm sure will be awesome too!
that's all I can say. Keep getting coins
and more coins
and more coins
and more!
and gift cards that can get more coins!
you will get there if you do!

Look, when this stuff takes over soo much that it costs money that is bad. But when it takes over to the point where it actually saves you money and might even MAKE you money, then it is darnnnn good! lemme tell ya!
