WAGNER RING CYCLE SFO 6/99-7/3/99
Any FLYERTALKERS going to be in SFO for the above marathon (25 hours over 4 nites)? I'll be there for cycle #4, FRI-6/25, SUN-6/27, WED-6/30 & SAT-7/3.
Perhaps we could have a FLYERTALK gettogether for serious RINGHEADS?
Here's another question: How many COMPLETE RINGCYCLES have you attended and where? SFO will be my #2, with one prior in CHICAGO in 1996. There I met people who were already over #20.

Mr. Know It ALL>.. just a suggestion but you might want to put this type of post on the FlyerTalk get togthers area. This is the one of the places I think the FLyerTalkers visit most and who knows... there may be a few peole in SFO ready for a get together.
Just a suggestion, please don't think I'm being too CATTY folks!

Knowitall finds it hard to believe that there are no culturally involved Flyertalkers interested in this subject.
Just think of the opportunity to sit and enjoy Wagner for 25 hours over 4 nites spread over 9 days.
Any takers?

I used to hold season tickets to the SF Opera and received an invitation to buy great seats for this Cycle. I very seriously considered it; in fact, I came within a hair's breadth of actually taking the plunge. But then reality kicked in. I would very much look forward to 25 hours in the SF Opera House but not to the 31 hours on a 747 that I would have to face in order to get there!

TO HONG KONG FLIER:
Surely you realize that it is not 25 consecutive hours, but is spread out for 4 performances over 9 days. You could easily get unjetlagged in a few days.
Also, I think the first US performance of the new Millemium will be at the Met in Spring 2000.
I've never been in the SFO opera house, and would appreciate any comments you have about it. The first 2 performances we have nosebleed seats, but for #3 & #4 they look like pretty good seats in the center of the first balcony.
They are charging outrageous prices in SFO, like $190/nite for box seats and $160/nite for main floor; Lyric Opera Chicago had a top price of $125 for main floor and boxes for the 1996 RING.
HKF- How are the acoustics on the main floor of SFO? I've not heard much good about same and wonder if you have a learned opinion since the opportunity to "upgrade" usually is available, despite the year in advance sellout. Thanks for any info.

Yes, of course I realize it is not consecutive! However, I do not have unlimited vacation which means I would need to fly in the day of Das Rheingold and fly out the day following Gotterdammerung. That is too much.
As in every other house, seats in the SF Opera house are a trade-off between watching the opera and listening to the opera. My favorite seats are in the first 2 rows of the Grand Tier. Acoustics are very good and the view is the best in the house. Next would be the first 2 rows in the Dress Circle. Next would be the orchestra.
It's not the Met, but I think the SF Opera House is fantastic since the renovation. The acoustics have improved considerably, and I find it to be a very nice venue all around. If you have any specific questions, let me know. You can see the Opera House online (including virtual views from every seat) at http://www.sfopera.org/tickets/seating_charts.html
Hope this helps.

WAGNERMANIA MOVES TO FLYERTALK COMMUNITY
========================================
Within 2 hours of setting up this thread on 6/5/99 I was encouraged by CATMAN to take my RINGCYCLE elsewhere, like FLYERTALK COMMUNITY. At first, I thought that long timer MEOWMAN was just trying to chase a lowly newcomer JUNIOR MEMBER away from his bowl, but now I realize that CATMAN was right, and I've reopened this thread as suggested.
Thanks CATMAN, but just wait until I become an official for real MEMBER!
