Or, is there a lag between when I make my qualifying $1,000 spend and when I'm able to get and use my points?

Have you already gotten an email saying that you have 100,000 miles reserved? (Ie, an email telling you the amount, not the web page just telling you generically "your miles have been reserved".) If so, then chances are you'll get the 110k in two steps (10k first, 100k a few days later) within a few days of the $1100 charge posting to your account (not necessarily even needing to wait for a statement).

But if you look in the main 110K C1 offer thread (including one my posts from today), you'll see that someone who didn't apparently wait for that email has had their $1000 charge post, a statement come and go, and still has not seen the bonus miles.

I did receive that e-mail. Haven't received the card yet, though.

I am planning to redeem my 110k points for lots of gift cards. Good idea or not?

They are basically worth 1% almost no matter how you use them (though a bit more with the Hyatt certs and less for merchandise). If you are going to use the retailers anyway then the gift cards are as good as anything. I cashed in for a bunch of Amazon gift cards already. They will get used!

I've ordered a bunch of gift cards. Do they send an email when shipped like they say or do the cards just show up? I'm trying to time some purchases and wondering when the cards I ordered last week will show up.

I think the gift cards are great redemptions if you're going to use the retailers anyhow. I've already gotten a couple of Walmart gift cards. Used one to buy gas at their gas station and was pleasantly surprised to find out they give you a 3-cent per gallon discount when you pay at the pump with the gift card. Not much, but with gas prices being what they are today, I'll take it. Free gas and a 3-cent per gallon discount. Can't beat that!

I've found that the cards take about 1-2 weeks to arrive. They send you an email when they've shipped.

If you can book travel thru the Cap1's priceline link, you will get 6 (bonus 4 + regular 2) points/dollar. Then redeem for that purchase. This way you will get 6,600 more points which is worth $66.

$900 Ritz-Carlton Currency award

I'm wondering whether anyone has any first-hand knowledge of the 51,500 mile RC Currency award.

Specifically, I'm interested in the denomination. We've seen the $900 from Fairmont as 3 - $300, and the $900 from Hyatt as 1 - $500 plus 2 - $200.... and was interested in knowing how the $900 RC Currency award is denominated.

TIA!

Use my points to purchase airline ticket for a friend?

I have already received my 110,000 points in my account. I have already booked a ticket for my travel for next year using my AA mileage however a friend who is planning on traveling with me does not have his ticket yet. Can I use my points to pay for his ticket? If it is OK to do so, how do I do it? This is the first time I am going to use C1 points to purchase anything so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Not true; you do NOT have to jump through those hoops. For airline-charges, Capital One gives you the option to split the $200 charge up to ten times (or charges of $20 each in this case). You can then use miles to redeem however many miles you have. It's easy to do... right there on the redemption page... it will ask you how many "tickets" to split the charge.

This is brilliant. I just applied this workaround and am very happy. Cheers!

Yes, but you have to pay for the ticket on your C1 card. The question then is how good of a friend are they and will they repay you?
