You can't transfer miles between one airline and another. These airlines aren't even in the same alliance!

Welcome to Flyertalk.
A good place to begin researching mileage or point transfer questions is here:
http://webflyer.com/programs/mileage_converter/
Notice that Delta is not listed in the "from" category, indicating that outbound transfers are not permitted. How many Skymiles do you have?

When you look on points.com you will see Delta Skymiles only permits exhanges to get more miles, which is an inelegant way of saying that Delta does not permit outbound transfers. However, you can transfer to another Skymiles' account using the "make a trade with someone else" feature. However, I believe the cost would be $0.01 per mile transferred.

Delta does not allow outbound transfer for the same reason that the old Soviet bloc countries did not allow their currencies to be freely exchangable. If DL did ever open an outbound outlet, the giant sucking sound you would hear would dwarf that of NAFTA.

Now then... Is there any way to convert CO miles to SkyMiles before OnePass and MileagePlus actually consummate? I know, I'm being extremely lazy in asking this here, but I haven't seen it come up in the UA|CO merger threads on those boards. Thanks, in any event.

As SkyMiles are worth the least of any major FF currency, there would be high demand for outbound conversion. But if the market set the trading values, you might fairly say 3000 SM = 1000 CO/UA miles.

Did you mean CO to UA? I can't think of many people wanting to convert CO to DL, unless the miles are orphans.

So even if you could transfer to another airline, you'd only end up with "over 15000" miles, and where would that get you?
Meanwhile, it is so much easier to get at least 25000 CO miles miles just by applying for their credit card. So with just a successful credit card application and whatever the minimum spend and/or annual fee is for the bonus, you'd have almost as much over at CO without having touched your Delta miles.
I understand that your Delta miles may not get you where you want to go right now, but they're still of more use kept alive as Delta miles for a later time when you will be able to use them, either on Delta or on its parnter Alaska Airlines or on one of its SkyTeam Alliance partners.
If Delta Skymiles is not working for you, just add to that account enough to keep those miles alive until you find a use for them, and meanwhile start accumulating something else.
