Just in case they don't understand my love for Doubletree!

The Corrupt Banker Jul 10, 2012 5:42 pm

I was unsure on whether to e-mail them, given I'm rather milking it, but I did and look what's just arrived.

HI Banker,

We have fixed this and you should see your points within 24hours.
Thanks and happy travels,
Employee
Anyone having having trouble with Priority Club or Hilton give it a try.

I'll update you on when the points get posted.

The Corrupt Banker Jul 10, 2012 5:52 pm

Wow, that was quick. They've posted already. Definitely e-mail them if you're having trouble.

Def do it.

I had not had any points since April, I emailed earlier today and got an reply saying it was sorted out and that the points should post within 24 hours.

My points (Doubletree and Holiday Inn) are posting in hours. Wish I had gotten in on this sooner.

Last day of Wyndham...

The Corrupt Banker Jul 15, 2012 3:24 pm

Wyndham has disappeared from the site. It isn't possible to add a Wyndham number anymore. We'll have to see if we can get a few more days if we already had one in, but it doesn't look good. Did anyone manage to get any extra Best Western points after June 30th? Just curious.

Wow Topguest partners are dropping like flies. Does anyone know if their valuation ever went over $100M?

No response from a Wyndham check-in today. I just started using them, too.

I'll be surprised if TopGuest is around for more than a few more months. Their existing partners are dropping like flies, and they haven't managed to get any new ones (or renew any old ones). I think the business model just doesn't work.

I've received tens of thousands of points/miles from them without doing anything that would substantially increase my spending with any of their partners. Many of my family members, friends, and associates have done the same. That certainly supports your assertion that the business model doesn't work. If it did, we'd be earning those points only if we were more inclined to spend.

LOL, I can't even really grasp what their business model was, or how they convinced the partners they have to sign up.

It's not a ridiculous concept; it failed both because its implementation was flawed and because the networks needed to support it aren't mature. It was easy to score huge quantities of points without physically going to a location, promoting it, nor spending with it. That's a recipe for disaster. The concept/idea, however, was that people would be more inclined to go somewhere, spend there, and share the experience with their friends if you earn something of value for doing so. That ideal makes perfect sense, but it has to be executed in line with those objectives. TopGuest was not. Maybe it's not too late for them to change?

I wonder if the novelty and buzz of social check-in has passed. Foursquare itself went through a major redesign/rethinking from a pure checkin service.

I'm curious what was the breakdown by checkin service - I've been watching the topguest homepage for a few minutes and every checkin on their ticker was done through foursquare.
