Sounds reasonable to me for them to ask for additional proof that you were at the locations you claimed to be if their system flagged you for review.

Or they've wised up to the cheaters (drive-bys, auto4sq, etc)

That's ridiculous. I dont recall any rules saying we had to stay or pay for anything at the hotels we are checking into

But if they think your check-ins aren't legit and suspend you, how else could you prove that you were actually there? I'm an Instagram user and have never had a problem. If they ever question my check-ins I would simply refer them to my pictures.

I'm willing to bet most of the people who were kicked out were foursquare only users.

You represent and warrant that you are actually at a location by sharing a check-in at a place with Topguest. Topguest reserves the right to refuse to give rewards for checkins that Topguest, at its sole discretion, determines to be fraudulent or otherwise inauthentic.

D. Service Rules
You agree not to engage in any of the following prohibited activities: (i) copying, distributing, or disclosing any part of the Service in any medium, including without limitation by any automated or non-automated "scraping"; (ii) using any automated system, including without limitation "robots," "spiders," "offline readers," etc., to access the Service in a manner that sends more request messages to the Topguest servers than a human can reasonably produce in the same period of time by using a conventional on-line web browser (except that Topguest grants the operators of public search engines revocable permission to use spiders to copy materials from Topguest.com for the sole purpose of and solely to the extent necessary for creating publicly available searchable indices of the materials, but not caches or archives of such materials); (iii) transmitting spam, chain letters, or other unsolicited email; (iv) attempting to interfere with, compromise the system integrity or security or decipher any transmissions to or from the servers running the Service; (v) taking any action that imposes, or may impose at our sole discretion an unreasonable or disproportionately large load on our infrastructure; (vi) uploading invalid data, viruses, worms, or other software agents through the Service; (vii) collecting or harvesting any personally identifiable information, including account names, from the Service; (viii) using the Service for any commercial solicitation purposes; (ix) impersonating another person or otherwise misrepresenting your affiliation with a person or entity, conducting fraud, hiding or attempting to hide your identity; (x) interfering with the proper working of the Service; (xi) accessing any content on the Service through any technology or means other than those provided or authorized by the Service; or (xii) bypassing the measures we may use to prevent or restrict access to the Service, including without limitation features that prevent or restrict use or copying of any content or enforce limitations on use of the Service or the content therein.

I understood the terms of topguest, as well as the risks associated with using autosq. I was just giving another datapoint, and guess as to what is happening. I am in no way shocked that it is occuring, as the current setup of awarding points without actually staying at a place and validating that stay is unsustainable.

Topguest Help
SEP 08, 2012 |
Hello whatmeworryaus - Thank you for contacting us.

The reason why you are unable to access your account is because it has been suspended.
Thanks and happy travels,

Topguest
Got this from Topguest!

What do I do now? What a lazy answer!

Do I wait, do i argue, Do I request my account be cancelled or do I launch a class action against Topguest?

Take 'em to the mat!

...Or move on to the next thing. For the avg person, this is MAYBE a couple thousand legit points a year? Sure every little bit helps, but you can focus your efforts elsewhere.

It seems like they did a system wide audit this past few days to root out the heavy abusers. I use foursquare and don't exactly provide my actual identity unlike Facebook so people wouldn't know where I am at any particular time. Using four square is more private and to feed my check in addiction to get badges. If they really want to verify, they can check my other check ins. It's not like I am doing drive by check ins. I don't particularly agree with having to have receipt in order to get points but it's their program son they are allowed to do what they want. I got an email back just a moment ago that my access was restored. Sure enough, I was able to log in.

Man you are smart, no way they could ever deny instagram pictures that's rock solid proof! What do you take a picture of? Can you share your secrets so others don't get shut down.

All mine were legit, oh well, guess I should of used instagram.

Wow I just asked a question on Topguest's Facebook page and they deleted my post and they blocked me from posting!

I guess I will be contacting the CEO of Topguest directly!

Do you really need 50 points that badly?

Only three years of daily check-ins for a free night at the Intercontinental! :D

Let's assume that your free night is valued at $300 = 50,000 points = 1,000 Holiday Inn check-ins. That means that each check-in you do is worth 30 cents towards that free night. Even if I was driving past I don't think I'd waste the gas to pull into the parking lot!

With all these posts about the arrogance of TopGuest and terminating users I wonder how long they will be around.

Perhaps the last user should shut off the lights a they leave. :)

Topguest - additional points for checkins

Well it won't be me, I'm out.

phdtomd Sep 9, 2012 8:25 am

I havent been shut down yet, maybe I should take a break. I live .4 miles from a hilton and I would totally love to earn a free night using top guest. I value my time but theres almost nothing I wouldn't do for free points. Its fun for me, kind of like a hobby.

Yes, the account is shut down. I have the same issue. Just like I suspected, if you create a new TG account with a different email address to get around it, and then try to add your same hotel program account numbers to that profile, you will get a message that those hotel program account numbers aren't eligible to be added, so the only way to get around it is to create brand new Priority Club and Hilton accounts and deposit the points on those and eventually merge them with your original accounts. Not worth the hassle to me for 50 points per day, so this deal is dead for me.

Interesting. My husbands account is connected to Facebook and is still available. My son's and I are not - and are no longer available.

I'm in the same boat, it's certainly a fun hobby to spend a tiny bit of time occasionally and get some free points. I'm still alive, but can't decide if I should push it harder for more points on the assumption that I'll be shut down soon anyway (or they'll lose all their partners), or start checking in less often to see if I can make it last longer. I haven't been doing it as much as some others, but I'd love to get to at least 5k PC points that I could use on a Pointsbreak night.
