I'm getting tired of having people asking me why I'm checking into a hotel in the middle of the day and assuming my life is a lot more exciting than it is.

The few times I did Facebook checkins before switching to 4sq-only, a guy commented on my hotel checkin and said that my wife must've finally come to her senses :)

Then why are you even using FB to check in? Just switch to Foursquare and your problem is solved.

He is using foursquare, but his Facebook account is linked.

When you link your 4sq and FB accounts your 4sq checkins post to your FB. There is an option when you check in on 4sq to not share the checkin with FB...but you have to manually select it, and it is a pain to always remember. Unless you really need FB and 4Sq integration, it is easier to just unlink your facebook account:

You do not have to share a 4sq checkin with FB to get topguest points.

I don't automatically share my 4SQ postings with FB. It's pretty easy to click on the "F" or "T" icons (if you have linked accounts) to prevent posting to FB or Twitter. He doesn't indicate his accounts are linked, because he refers to Facebook postings.

It's a "she" not a "he", and a married one, which makes my check-ins even more interesting to people. Must be giving a Mrs.Robinson vibe.

The reason I use FB is because I've had problems getting the points with 4SQ before. I don't know if 4SQ is more sensitive to the distance. I'm a ways from the property when I check in. FB has been working great for me. I was just wondering if anyone has made their FB check-ins invisible to everyone but themselves and still got the points. I will try one today and see if it works.

Sorry that I scared a kitty :)

Sorry, Ms. C75. I was just following stubtify's lead as to your gender. Anyway, 4SQ does know approximately how far away you are, and if it's too far away, you will be told so by 4SQ with an "Aww shucks, no points for this check-in" because your phone thinks you are too far away. Just don't check-in too many times when you are not near the property or TG will warn you or kick you out of the program!

Stubtify Apr 28, 2012 1:26 pm

Eek, sorry as well about that mix up as well msc75.

As far as being close to the locations... I'm highly doubt topguest can tell that foursquare thought you were not close enough. I believe it is people checking in to multiple places in short periods of time that they look for. When two locations are 12 miles away and you check in within 10 minutes of each other they know you're not really there.

m.foursquare.com doesn't care how close you are, and my phone's foursquare app location is so bad I'm often miles away from some places and it doesn't care, and then when I'm at the actual property it decides I'm too far for points for the checkin.

No worries, she's pretty skittish. :)

I currently collect around 50 UA miles per day via 4Square check ins. However, I'm not using Top Guest for any other check ins. Is there any concensus "best" program to check in with using Top Guest in order to quickly get points for free hotel nights?

How do you get UA points using Top Guest? I don't see UA listed as a program.

There's a separate sign-up page for it, even though it's using TopGuest for the back end stuff. See:

This shouldn't matter I've been using Facebook to check-in and set the privacy setting to me only, for the reason you mention. The points always post.

Just to toss this out there, has anyone actually seen HHonors points post from a Hampton Inn checkin since March 27? Maybe the TopGuest guy is not correct that the programs page is accurate and it really is the T&C page that has the right info...

Have been no problem checking in on 4S at Hampton Inn DCA. I check-in at UA daily at DCA when I'm at home. Sucessfully got points for UA, BW, Wyndahm, and Hampton check-ins around EWR the last weekend.

And they actually showed up in your HHonors account (i.e. more than just the "You've earned 50 points" emails from TopGuest)?

Topguest's "Recently earned" list has a whole bunch for yesterday labeled "Priority Club Rewards points." So I'm guessing a batch is about to hit people's PCR accounts.
