Safeway to end miles program

Heard on ABC radio network news today:

Safeway and its affiliated companies (like Vons) plan to end participation in the various airline mileage programs beginning in March.

This program has been problematic for a while. The earned miles don't ever appear to end up in your Mileage Plus account.

Maybe that's why it didn't work for Safeway?

All of my miles have been showing up correctly. Sad to see this go.

I have always had my Safeway miles post to my UA account. I guess when I am in SFO, I will now shop at another grocery store? I would go to Safeway, all things being equal, just for the extra miles. I have earned thousands of UA miles from Safeway. Too bad.

they always worked for me and they even posted retroactively whenI lost all my ua miles but a last day of the month purchase that posted late not only earned me another 125 but ua automatically put my miles back in my account

I will not go to safeway or vons as much now as I was also another who went there just to keep climbing toward another 125 every 3 or 4 months

i am sad about this going away

+1
It was never a way to get miles-rich, but the program delivered what it promised.

this was a good program to avoid miles expiring. Every few months or so, my UA account gets updated. Oh well. Now have to go buy something from the online mall every year or so to keep the miles.

Sad to see it go,
over the years I accumulated over 3K miles on CO on just gasoline purchases. It is a nice way to keep your account from going inactive if you stop flying an airline.

Get the Chase MP Visa and your account would get updated every month.

It was a good program especially since gift card purchases counted too.

I always liked this program. Living in Chicago metro we have a Dominick's and a Jewell side-by-side. My wife always wants to go to Jewell and I forced the Dominick's because of the mileage. No More.

By the way, my miles always appeared almost immediately and I really liked this program. Sorry to see it go

I've always had my Safeway miles post promptly. And that was the main reason I shopped at Safeway.

If the program is being dropped, then I will start shopping elsewhere ..... the Safeway closest to my home was one of the older designs and limited in size.
