Grocery margins are notoriously low, and I guess the retailers figured out that the vast majority of us shop there for convenience and price, not a few paltry miles.
This makes no sense - you would pay higher prices to get 125 miles for every $250 spent? For example, if your bill was only 2% higher, you'd be paying $5 for 125 miles or 4 cents per mile? You can get them cheaper from UA 
Also wondering who is cheaper in your area - I really see very little difference between the majors like Safeway, Lucky, etc. particularly when you try to stock up on sale items. Certainly not Whole Foods. We do buy some items that are cheaper at Trader Joes, and will continue to do so, but their product selection is limited. And my time is too valuable to shop at WalMart, where I have often found higher prices (though Target ain't bad on a few items)
